Definitely not a lion at all. It is a probably not even a real big house cat. I am going to stick with a stray cat. Simply put that log would have to be feet in Diameter to make that a cat of any size.
 
That is absolutely a big BOBCAT.

I've seen big ones like that with no spots around these parts that were easy 30 lbs+. Looks like a beefy tom, you can see his cheek tufts in the pic.

There is nothing in that picture that resembles a cougar in any way to me...
