What is most accurate 22 mag ammo?

Did a little target shooting this afternoon and could not than 1 3/4 inch groups using CCI ammo. That was at 100 yards. Has anyone found any other brands that will do better? Maybe it was just me. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

In my gun or yours?

You never know until you try it in your gun, Mine likes the winchester supremes but they may not shoot in yours, just buy a box from every mfg you can find and test them in your gun.

Yes, your rifle will decide which brand/load it likes best. Both my Marlins prefer Rem premiers. second, Win supremes. The absolute worst shooting rounds in either one is anything from CCI. I have yet to hear anyone who did any real testing of loads say that CCI's shot well from their guns.

same with me its the premiers,or the win.sup.and just about every one i know that takes there shooting seriously shoot one or the other.

Ditto what Tom and Arborman said. Every rifle is different. I have yet to see ANY that shoot CCI's the best. Federal or Winchester usually shoot best for me.

yes, my wife and i both have marlin 22mags and the worst
ammo is cci...the best is the winchester supreme and the
next best is the new federal premium...love those 22mags

dudechance

My Rem 597 likes the high dollars stuff, Remington V-Max, Wichester Supreme, Federal Premium. CCI does not shoot well in my rifle.

I like the Federal Premium the best... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Depends on the individual rifle. Mine likes the Remington Premiers 33 gr V-Max. It shoots em well enough that I have never search for a second.

Same here... Got an old marlin and it gets wild with any of the CCI's (which stinks cause they're the best in my.22LR. I'm a big CCI fan). My rag likes the grey box Winchesters best. I tryed every make/brand available for .22mag.

You'll just have to try & see what works 4 u... don't leave out the grey box though.

I'd rather have different bullet but you have to hit it 1st.

Greg,
The most accurate in my Ruger 10/22 mag. is the standard silver box Winchester 40gr.HP, then Federag 50gr. HP, CCI Maxi-Mag HP, and just behind that is the Remington Premier. Lucky for me my gun likes the less expensive ammo best.
Regards,
Jim

I wish I hadn't read this set of posts.....
I love my CCI .22 LR Mini-Mag HP's.....
Been using them exclusively in my handguns and 10/22's for close to 30 years....
I've been trying to shoot CCI Maxi-Mag's in my new Savage 93FSS.....
The groups are horrible.....
{sigh}
It would have been easier to say it was the rifle.....
{sigh}
They do have the Winchesters at WallyWorld though.....
{sigh}
Anyone want a box and a half of CCI Maxi-Mags?

My 597 loves the Remington Premiere 33gr V-max, no other round even comes close. If you can get the CCI TNT's to shoot well that would be the ticket as that round absolutely smoked everything else that I chrono'd.

really though, 1 3/4 inch groups at 100 yards is not that bad for a 22 mag. But yes, better accuracy than that is more than possible. just try different ammo. Rimfires are actually more fussy I think than center fires when it comes down to individual ammo prefference. I dont see that many 22 mags that can get under an inch group at 100. So dont drive your self nuts trying to acomplish it.

I am grateful for the help all of you have given. I drove to the big city today (200 mile round trip) and got a box of all ammo mentioned. Let the testing begin! As a side note, the wife and I picked some other stuff today and when we got home, I was looking at origin of manufacturing. Only the ammo was made in the USA, this is nuts! Everything else was foreign.

CCI sux in my Marlin. +2" groups @ 100 yds.

Winchester Super X rocks. Don't even know if they make it anymore, but I bought 2,000 rounds once I found out it grouped .7 moa!

dudechance CCI load for Federal 22wmr, but the load for Rem 22wmr now too

I went round and round with 22wmr years ago. Not much of that realy matters now because of changes. One round I've always been able to fall back on is the Winchester 40 gr hp. This is the silver box ammo. Workhorse stuff, and accurate. Do yourselves a favor and don't mistake this ammo with their welfare dynapoint in the white box. For smaller keeps like squirrel the rem 40 gr psp smokes 'em.

You guys were absolutely right! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I went out yesterday to the range with some of my CCI Maxi Mags and some of the Winchester silver box (X22MH).....

After about 50 rounds of each in 5 shot groups alternating between the two at 50 yards..... The Winchester groups were consistantly 1/2 or less the size of the CCI groups. There were regularly fliers with the CCI's but none with the Winchesters.

The rifle is a Savage 93FSS.

Thanks for the pointers!

me!
