what is the best 380 ?

I agree a .380 on you is more effective than a .45 in your truck. I have both and I carry both depending on the situation. My .380 is a North American Arms Gaurdian. I really like it and have had no problems with it. It is stainless. The guy I work with has a lcp and I like it as well especially the weight. It is a lot lighter than mine. But It is not stainless and since it is a carry gun it tends to get a lot of sweat on it. He is having problems with rust. Just something to consider with a carry gun.

Aside from the reality of the Tueller Drill I wouldn't want to test your theory. I can't quite wrap my head around how a 1240fps 35gr bullet could be better than a 90gr bullet at 1000fps. For self defense you would never want a hollow point in a .22 bullet.A 40gr. solid only.The velocity in a pistol will be lower of course.As to the theory do a little homework and find out the #1 caliber in the USA people are killed with every year.I like to carry a .45 myself.But for a bug gun I really like that PT22.

I carry a Sig 238. It shoots great. I bought my Mom a LCP with a laser for Mothers day.(lol) It shoots good. I sig feels a little better to me. It also does not have as much recoil sense it is a little heavier. I was surprised how much POP those little guns have.
 
I'd make a trip to the gun store and try on each and every one of the guns I was considering, and go from there. I know several with the LCP that like it but it doesn't feel right to me.

The only down fall with some is that the Sig is single action. I personaly don't mind.

It appears that .38 caliber is the #1 caliber with the limited amount of effort I put into researching. If you have credible conflicting information stating that a .22 caliber is used in more homicides (not including suicide) in the US than any other feel free to reference it. BTW Neither the NRA certified training for personal defense with a handgun (I've completed) or the IDPA recommend a .22 over a larger caliber (aside from perhaps the .25ACP).

Mine definitely were loaded with Gold Dots, but I've had em a few years.

I have (2) Buffalo Bore Gold Dots followed up by Flat Noses. Figure if the first 2 don't put things down then a little extra penetration may not hurt anything!
 
Couldn't be happier with my Sig P238. I've got 150 rounds down the pipe and haven't had any hiccups or problems at all. The sights are leaps and bounds above thr Ruger,Taurus,and walther (IMO) which is one of the reasons I spent the extra scratch for this gun over the other choices. I is a great pocket/back up/ hot weather gun. It is also built around the 1911 platform and that is a definite plus in my book cause nothing feels a s good as a 1911 in your hand. As a matter of fact I have mine on right now in a nifty belt holster I made for it last night and it is making me smile.

I use an LCP and a good majority of my friends are carrying them too. 299.99 is a great price for a great pistol. Ruger says not to use +P ammo through it so i use either the Speer Gold Dot or the Remington Home Defense. The Home Defense is nice because it's 102gr which nice because it's going to be more effective than the standard 90gr most self defense rounds are coming in.

I fail to see the advice in this post. Consider the 380 as a contact weapon and much more suitable to personal defense than a 22 or 25. The PT22 is not really a gun I would choose to save my life either. I have owned one too.

Sig 230 is a great gun, but the same size as many newer 9mm's. I traded mine off to someone on this board. Ruger LCP is nice in hand and better looking than the Kel Tec. The Kel Tec gets rave reviews on function by owners. The new Sig looks like a great gun but no experience.

The 380 is for a small gun, so choose accordingly.
 
If you have concerns about the effectiveness of the .380 then look at the Kel Tec P-11. Its only slightly larger than the P-3AT but shoots the 9mm luger.

For pants pocket carry I have tried Kahr PM9, Ruger SP101, Taurus 605, Smith J frames and didnt care for any of them for pants pocket carry, Coat pocket might get the edge to a revolver. I have been carrying a Keltec P3AT for the past seven years and couldnt be any happier with it other then its not a 45. I think I would have bought one of the Ruger LCPs for the slide lock but they where not available at the time and I am not selling my Keltec now just for slide lock if I ever need to replace it will be the LCP just for the slide lock.
If it goes in a belt holster then its 1911 but my Keltec is still always in my pocket.
