Kingofcoins checking back in here...what a ride folks !...and I thought all you guys were dead dry serious, but I think it was an entertaining thread at least... haven't laughed so loud for awhile...keep up the smiles.
Now onto the serious stuff...I realize what it would take to have a 200 yard bug hole gun...any gun, and it would not be just cash, or luck or reloads, it would take a lot hard earned professional design, and the in-depth skill to load for it, and for sure the intense skill to shoot it...and that just doesn't come out of any box white or not too often. That said, I figure as much as suggested so far the cartridge candidates might be the 20ppc or 20br or 20vt. But in reality I think most would agree it would be an easier goal for a larger caliber to obtain..like .243 etc.
I am very fortunate to own one of these steel and wood anomalies.Speaking truthfully I have a .243 Win totally out of the box 1968 Mdl 70 Varminter, that I would put up to many folks for accuracy. It has been realistically phenomenal for a factory gun right from the first shot. I have never had the stock off or adjusted or touched the gun other than with an oily silk cloth. And this is why. I used to carry a piece of one of its targets in my wallet about the size of a credit card. Big you say, well not for 485 yards it wasn't. This was shot in the wild from one hill to the next, no sandbag only a foam pad on top my camera tripod. And the 5 shot group size...?...mind you no warm up shots, no misses, no 6th shot...was center to center 0.725"
That's why I may never touch the gun in any way and why NO its NOT for sale. It has repeatedly done things like... 10 shot fast as you can fire in hot weather 0.315"@100yds, 3 shot 375yd 0.455", 3 shot 400yd 0.550", 5shot 200yd 0.278", to name some of the best groups.
Another of its rare talents...I found a musty box of that awesome 485 yard load last year that I loaded back in 1975. I hadn't shot the gun in a few years either so I did brush the bore and solvent dry patched it. Ok yeah used a sandbag off lawn and target was only 335 yards. I laughed on the way down range after 4 shots cause I couldn't see a mark on the paper with the 20x Supertargetspot...what was I thinking 30 year old ammo, rusty me, wind, old sight settings?. I had to get down close at the target to rub my eyes as there off in the side of black were all 4 shots doing a 0.870" huddle .
OK...OK I can hear it all now...but that folks is the rare reality of this game...a lot of guns are called but few are chosen. Hope you enjoyed this as much as I enjoy the gun...fat chance.
Anyway I will check out any and all suggestions for the best .20 cal bet. I also have a .22-250 custom mauser, and an 03-A3, that are simliar wonders, so I want to complete the set!
