What is the most accurate bullet for 243.

I was wondering if I could get some input on different bullets for a 243. I have got a friend that just bought a Savage Model 200 and he is curious about the most accurate load.

That can vary widely from rifle to rifle.

That said, I've always gotten outstanding accuracy with 95 grain Nosler Ballistic Tips in .243 caliber.

This bullet may, or may not, be suitable for the intended usage, and your milage may vary relative to accuracy.

I have had real good luck with the 60 grain Sierra HP and the 65 Grain Hornady V Max for varmints/predators and the 85 grain Sierra HPBT or the 95 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip for deer .

I'll second the 87 Gr Vmax for the 243. My last set of handloads with that bullet netted me 2 sub 1/2" MOA 5 shot groups. 1 at .458" and one at .450".

That was out of a Tikka so kind of an unfair advantage :p

I have had best luck out of Sierra 85 gr HPBTs. The 87 gr VMAX work well enough as well. One bullet I just CANNOT get working out of my CZ 550 are the Remington 100 gr Core-Lokts. I'm loading the Remingtons .010 off the lands and I'm thinking they like to jump into the lands.

I tried the lighter weight VMax bullets in my Savage .243, but could not get decent accuracy out of them until I got up the the 87" grain bullet. I know others who have had good luck with the lighter weight bullets, but that's not been my fortune. I got great accuracy with the 70 Nosler BT, getting 3425 fps. and 5/8" 3 shot groups at 100 yards. I believe the gun can shoot more accurately, but the 8 powder scope with cross hairs which subtend about 1" at 100 yards makes shooting tighter groups problematic. I found I could go faster than 3425 fps., but the accuracy started to fall off at 3450 fps.. I tried several different powders, but the only one which delivered good accuracy in hot temps and in cold temps was SR3031. This has been true with the other 6mm rifles I have had. I haven't tried any of the extreme powders form Hodgdon, being satisfied with the SR3031.

My old Ruger No. 1 243 likes 100 gr. Hornaday Spire Points with IMR 4350 powder so well that this is the only bullet I load for that rifle. Works well for both varmits and deer. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Mine likes the 75 grain v-max with a healthy dose of Varget and CCI BR primers. It also shoots the 87 grain v-max's very well. I am planning to try some 105 A-max's with retumbo powder very soon for the LONG RANGE accuracy. Most any bullet is accurate enough at 1-200 yards. Once you pass the 500 yard mark...that's what seperates the excellent bullets from the standard ones.

Only your rifle can tell you that. Sierras are usually accurate in about anything you stuff them in, provided the twist is right for the length bullet you are trying.

shoot several loads with differing wt's and style, and brands of bullets. Make the testing on days that are as similer as possible so the temp and humidity is the same as well as wind speed and direction. Closely monitor the results of each shot and string look for group size and deviation in velocity (if you have the equipt.)or just group size if you do not have access to a chronograph. Settle on the best groups out of each bullet wt and then best groups over all. Each rifle is a law unto itself almost. they all sem to have preferances as to ammunition.

1 in 9.25" (243 WIN) I would try 70-95 grain flavors.

Hunt; While I don't doubt the performance of the Rem C-L's I never got them to group so well either. But then again I don't belive this bullet was designed for competition, just to kill jazz like the partition.
