What is the most accurate bullet for 243.

Sierra 85 bthp is the most consistently accurate bullet I shoot in my 243, .75" for 5 at 100yds. I will tell you it (rifle) copper fouls quickly.

I've shot the .243 for over 30 years now, but must confess there's a lot of bullets I haven't tried; mostly b/c I've found a few that do everything I need to do;

85 gr. Sierra BTHPs have always been exceptionally accurate
100 gr. Sierra BTs aren't far behind if the twist is right
100 gr. Nosler partitions aren't usually quite up there in the finest accuracy ranks, but they sure are a death ray on whitetails.
Haven't played around much with the ultra-light .243 bullets but have had pretty good luck with the 60 Sierras.

Heck, now that I think about it, I haven't shot many bullets in any decent .243 that weren't pretty accurate, some just better than others. I love the looks of that long 105 gr. Speer but my BSA sporter won't group it very well - like 2" 100 yard groups. Probably needs a little faster twist.

i use federal grey box ammo in 100 grain soft point and get thumb print groups at 200 yards.
for some reason the premiums give me a 3" pattern at 200.
its the first time i've had a rifle that shoots regular better then premuim
and it does kill very nicely!!

There is a guy by the name of "Tubb" that does pretty good with the 115DTAC. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif

I dont have a .243 twisted fast enough to shoot them, but the one I use shoots the 75 Vmax very well. I plan on rebarreling my next one to shoot the 115's though.

I was wondering if I could get some input on different bullets for a 243. I have got a friend that just bought a Savage Model 200 and he is curious about the most accurate load.
After looking at several ballistic charts of different ammo brands, and comparing rounds to an average distance of 300 yard (best balance point of velocity, energy and "drop") the best round that I found for the .243 caliber, based on my research, is the Hornady Superformance Varmint .243 Winchester 58 grain V-Max round.

17 years just might be a record!

Hard to beat the on-game performance, and the accuracy of, either the 85grTSX or the 80gr TTSX, from Barnes.

VMAX 87 gn over IMR4451 is most accurate in my 243 RAP.
Close 2nd is VMAX 75 gn over 8208 XBR in my 243 RAP.

I shot some 88 grain Bergers and some 80 grain Bergers in my No 1 Ruger today. Pushing the 80's with IMR 4895 and the 88's with AA4064. Both loads and bullets shot well under 3/4 inch. Pretty good for a No 1 IMO.

Heads up for those who are looking for .243 70 grain Nosler Ballistic Tips: Midway USA and Powder Valley were showing them in stock yesterday. Interestingly, Midway had them id’d as a “clearance” item.

I see Midway has Dogtown 70 grain and Sierra Prairie Enemy 70 BlitzKings on sale. Price seems right, for factory loads. Anyone have any experience with either of these? Most of the reviews I've seen on Dogtown .243 are older, but I've had good luck with Dogtown .204.
