Think it'll print 5 shot 3 inch groups at 100yds with factory ammo with 3x optics?

4 inch groups?

It's a rack grade carbine so it should shoot 3-4 MOA with surplus M855 and probably better depending upon the ammunition used.

I have little experience with shooting for groups with 3x optics, but I would be surprised if it was incapable of 1.5 MOA with a 3-9x on top and quality ammunition.

I have the same shooter and so does one of our sons.

I put a 1x4 scope on mine and then sighted it in, adjusted the scope, ran the shots through my chronograph, and tested 5 different types of factory ammo all at the same time.

Results:

My rest was not a bench rest and there was a wee bit of wind:

Best group was .81" with my tailored hand-loads. Most common group size was from .9 to 1.5" which was acceptable with the 4x scope. I'm used to shooting varmint rigs with 4x16 or 6x22 scopes and 4x is small!!!! Federal American Eagle AE223J provided the best groups and velocity. Almost all of the factory 55g FMJ velocities were around 2900-3100 fps. I've taken 2 mule deer bucks of average size with my hand-loads at 288 yards and around 175 yards. Both one shot with minimal tracking.....25-50 yards.

My son brought his Sig up for Thanksgiving and we sighted it in without the chronograph. He has a 3X scope and he was shooting in a wee bit higher wind velocity. His best group was .72. His averages for group size were almost identical to mine, .72-1.5" with the factory ammo.

Needless to say both of us are extremely happy with these SIGS.

How many shots for each group? How are you measuring the distance between shots to determine the group size?

Those are 3 shot groups and we measure the greatest outside distances of the groups and then subtract the caliber dimension. In this case .224.

I shot some today

ultramax softpoint 55gr reload stuff didn't shoot well, was 3 inch group @ 100

Remington 55 softpoint was tighter groups, 2.5 inch @ 100

Hornady superformance 55 vmax was way better and got an easy 1 moa @ 100 if I did my part, but that trigger was a challenge

I'll do it again, I'll do the 5 shot 6 target challenge with a "rack grade" carbine and 3x optics shooting off the shelf ammunition.

No I won't win the challenge, but I might surprise a few folks.
So far I really like this SIG (except for that nasty trigger)

Glad to hear that your Sig found the ammo it prefers. That's why I bought 4-5 boxes of different factory stuff before I went in for a brand to inventory 1,000 rounds.

I have around 250 rounds through mine and noticed that the trigger smoothed out a wee bit but my trigger was pretty sweet to begin with. I did lube it a bit with some Tetra lube and that did help. I notice that my son's trigger was not heavy but a bit gritty so we lube that one up too.

My guess is that your trigger will improve with some more rounds down the range. Also I betting that your groups could become continually better with some hand load tuning.

Seems like we now have 3 Sig M400 Enhanced that are shooting 3 shot groups under a inch with factory ammo. Great record.
