What range do you zero your rifle?

223 and 22-250 zero at 200 yds. 1 1/2 high at 100 about 5 inches low at 300. Top of the back of the coyote at 300 and hold dead on out to 200. Works on P.D. coyotes etc. Plus my range finder is calibrated for a 200 yd. zero.

Whenever I put a scope on a rifle, I will boresight it, then shoot it at 25 yards to see how much more adjustment I need. That is the ONLY time I shoot at 25 yard target. I've never had a rifle that would be zeroed at 25 and then be good out to 300 yards. Most of my rifles are zeroed to hit dead on at 200 yards. I very rarely shoot past 300 yards anyway, so I'm good to go.

Please join me in arguing this point to the united States army kymaul man I have been arguing it for years. Lol it bugs me every single time I go to a zero range

100 yards with all of them.
I use scopes with either reticle or turrets or both to shoot further when needed.
I don't holdover anymore.

My guns and shooting style has evolved over the years. I started out with bolt guns with scopes mounted as low as possible. With these, I would do a point blank zero where the bullet was never more than 1 1/2" high. When I started shooting ar's with one piece mounts, the optics are around 2 1/2" from centers. I started missing coyotes by shooting over them. I went back to a hundred yard zero, and depending on optic, I either dial or hold on the points in the reticle.

Both of my .223's are set at 1.5'' high at 100 yards . It has covered any shots I have made out to around 250 yards shooting across cut fields and that's a long shot in my area .

I start out sighting my Rifles in at 50 Yards then dead center at 100 yards,if a Coyote or Predator is further out most times I just aim a little higher on their body and I'm still going to hit them.On my CZ .204 Varmint I can hold dead on at the 200 yard mark and it's still dead on,since it's so fast and flat shooting I'm thinking the bullets still arc-ing as well as my Browning A- bolt Hunter in the .270 WSM...that caliber with a 130 grain ballistic tip will really reach out far and flat!

Most of My shots have been 50-100 yards while some have been 150-200 at best.If You shoot Your Rifle enough you know where the bullets going to hit and when You need to fudge it up a little or even aim a tad lower when something runs in too close for comfort. When I'm hunting in heavy woods or thicker cover I turn my scope down to 3 power so it's easier to find the target also. Here in Missouri we have rolling hills, deep hollers and some decent open Fields and Pastures for an occasional Long Shot but mostly there's nice Wooded Areas to hunt Coyotes,Bobcats and Foxes in!

200 yds. Its generaly my max distance in the Eastern deer hunting woods,2-600 on chucks. Anybody with a pulse can group at 100....200 seems to sort out bad habits rather quickly.
