what semi-auto shotgun to get?

franchi i12. i would never buy a benelli but would buy a franchi in a heartbeat. the intertia is the way to go imo when it comes to hunting.

i loathe benelli, but love franchi and stoeger. id take a franchi over beretta anyday of the week. if you shoot clays or ducks and shoot a lot, be prepared to clean the [beeep] out of it. i have had an 1187 premeir skeet.

if money is an issue, and you wanna spend $500 and thats it, go stoeger. their intertia gun is great.

I love my maxus and am a little partial to browning autos. They are more spendy than your price range but i believe well worth the extra dough.Gold ,silver,or maxus you cant go wrong with a browning auto.

Benelli SBE 2 or Beretta Xtrema II

My mistake the 100 dollar rebate is for certan model 700`s and the 1187`s is 50.
LOL..got to thinkin bout my earlier post, and no one has ever questioned the effectiveness of my Mod. 1200 12ga when I`m behind the trigger.

I shoot alot of competition stuff like sporting clays, trap, skeet etc. I've shot alot of guns and it may be a little pricier but I would deffinately look at a beretta 391, 390, or my favorite for hunting the beretta extrema. All 3 are very nice quality guns. But that's just my $.02

So many choices these days..guess I always figured if I ever upgraded it would be the 1187 because seems like they and their predacesor 1100 have been around for along time and 25 years ago they were the most common.I will take a look at some of the others mentioned before making a purchase.

Fastest action out there is the Winchester SX3 and it has a self adjusting gas valve, it will let you shoot target loads all the way to the heavies. For light target loads you need to flip the valve over though. But it is the best action out there. It will cycle 12 shots in 1.442 seconds, most of us don't need an action that fast but its there if we get that good.

FWIW I absolutely hated my 1187, even after giving it try after try. It was just a boat anchor. Sure it cycled most rounds, but it was never that deadly. I sold it and got a Benelli 12 and much more game died. Sports car versus family sedan IMO.

I also have a Beretta 20 for birds, and once that was purchased the rest of the o/u's I have became safe queens.

There's a reason that Beretta and Benelli are the only shotguns used in Argentina for doves. Reliability.

The only problem I have with the Benelli's is that eventually you will bump the bolt catch and it will not fire. That is really irritating when it happens and it just takes a nudge. Two other hunting buddies have Benelli's and have the same issue.

Finally the only other downside is price. If you can get that 390 for $500 it's a deal.
