What size 12g steel shot for foxes?

I'm getting 40 yard patterns like this with a Kick's High Flyer X-Full and 3" Winchester steel BB. Carboard target is 28"x30" with a sheet of paper folded in half long way (approx fox torso).

Kent and Federal patterned larger.

I don't think I'd complain about that much. I bet it is even better at 30. That steel is pretty out gas by 40, atlas on feathered critter, though I have downed them farther than than by chance.

From duck/goose hunting experience I had come to the conclusion that steel kinda sucks, but this is the first time I've seen comparison data on steel vs lead. More than halving the effective distance is pretty massive. Thanks for that info.

Open cylinder works best with BBB Black cloud. Give it a try .quote=DiRTY DOG]Originally Posted By: dennydPattern some Black Cloud BBB, if you want tight you will not get a tighter pattern, bb is good to, but bbb has plenty for taking fox at any range you are going to use a shotgun for, it's the wad, it's not a gimmick, it works. What choke you use with that? [/quote]
