What size shot are you using?

I am currently looking for an 11-87, but want to know what shot sze everyone is using.

Bobcat
Fox
Raccoon
Coyote
etc.

Ok, in my 11/87 I use a Carlson's turkey choke, it is unreal tight at 40 yards with 100% of the pattern in a 20" circle, a tad tighter with 00 and 000 buckshot.

I shoot 3" mag Remington #4 buck on everything, coons are tough and the #4 buck cuts through the briars very well for fox.

Another issue, it has become very difficult to find the Federal 3" copper plated BB's.

I do load my own buckshot and BB's.

Natchez did have sales on Rem 3" #4 buckshot from time to time for $5 for a 5 pack, this stuff is what my Rem 11/87 really likes along with hand loads.

It is difficult to impossible to carry different shells for different animals, and it breaks my heart to spend $3 per shell for the best shells on the market.

Good luck

Recently made the switch from nickel plated BB to #4TSS and #6TSS non toxic shot. Worth a look.

nickel plated BB has been my standard load for over 35 years. Good to 60 yards, any angle on coyotes and smaller

There is a lot of info over on the Gobbler Nation web site. The two drawbacks of TSS are its cost per pound and no factory rounds available..

#2 lead shot is the hammer of Thor on foxes, lots of pellets. It's too light for coyotes past 25 yards.

#4 buck hammers coyotes, but on foxes just doesn't have enough pellets for reliable quick kills at distance (35-40+ yards).

Anything lead in between those sizes works fine on foxes, no need for tungsten. Plated BB is tuff to find and grouped poorly for me anyways.

Dead Coyote T (and similar) is too darn expensive for my tastes especially when it's easily possible to takes several critters per day.

I use # 4 buck 3'' out of my Mossberg when hunting cover . If I am strictly hunting coons I use a 22 magnum . I have taken quite a few foxes with the 22 magnum also . Its hard to beat #4 buck for all round use though .

#4 buckshot will get it done for all of them. The few runners I have had were all with 2-3/4in shells, so I go with the 3in, 41 pellet Remingtons or Federal when I can get them

Interesting comments. TBR Outdoors suggested high brass 2 3/4" pheasant loads, #5, or #6 out to 40 yards for raccoons, and people here are shooting 3" BBs.

For coyotes? Uh.... no.

I got a bunch of heavy-Shot B's. They were on a crazy clearance for $7/box of 10. I got 8-9 boxes...pattern well and carry a ton of energy.

Unless you got a fox stealing your chickens from a chicken pen than what really is it? They might eat a few small varmits but I just can't imagine pulling the trigger on such a beautiful specimen, especially the red ones. I am not trying a to stir the pot just ain't my cup of tea. Heck I rarely see foxes around and I hunt places in FL, GA, and AL. I guess my downfall is my lack of understanding of people's wants and needs, sincerely I do apologize if anyone was offended in any way by this post. Now on coyotes l, I have a deep hatred for these creatures. After seeing our land have 1/3 of the deer population disappear and yes I have proof by the does rarely showing up with their offspring and scatt covered with deer hair on 2/3 of our rye patches in Ga and AL it makes me sick. I will shoot as many coyotes as I can see but unfortunately they are getting very keen on my areas. But late at night esp in AL they run deer all night and I might be crazy but I am hearing 10 or 20 giving off their barks. Sorry for the long post but I will never give up my desire to exterminate them if I can.

For raccoons. Edited previous post.

Back on topic, #4 buck in most of my shotguns with an exception of my 12 ga BPS that throws unbelievable tight and grouped patterns at 50 yards using 3 inch #1 buck but my favorite is 3 inch 4 buck because I like the more coverage in pattern and higher pellet count.

raccoons out to 40 yards with #5 and 6 shot is not a gimmie by any means. raccoons are pretty tuff critters. tbr still does not know any more than obama.

I can't argue, I just wanted to make sure that the mistake was mine.

Not everyone has stated. Are you buying in bulk online, or a few boxes local? Searching 41 pellet #4 buck on Wikiarms shows CheaperthanDirt is the cheapest, but no plans on buying from them.
