Hows it going guys?

I've been thinking about getting a suppressor, but dont know much about them and wanted to know what everyone's experience is. First of all i want to make sure they are legal to hunt with in colorado, otherwise i'll just forget about it.

If I do end up getting one it will be used on a .223 and 6.5 gren. Thoughts/advice?

Don't know if they are legal in Colorado but money no object, I would get a Gemtech. If not, go with Yankee Hill Machine.

Also not sure if you can fit a 223 suppressor on a 6.5. If you cannot, that means 2 cans and 2 stamps.

Just go with a .30 cal. can. You'll lose a bit of performance with the smaller calibers, but it's safe to use it that way and only one can/stamp/wait required.

yes, legal to hunt with in Colo.,

I went with a S.A.S. Sentinal Ti can in the .223 caliber. I went with a .223 caliber can because I rarely shoot any larger calibers, My can only weighs 10 oz. I got it through Mile High Shooting Acc. and they are located just north of Denver, right off of I-25. They are a one stop shop and can get you set up. They do the threading of the barrels in house and make really nice knurled thread protectors as well. Really nice and knowledgeable folks there and will be able to answer in questions ya might have with the paper work, etc.

A buddy of mine has a gemtech, and we've shot his rifle right next to mine, and we both agree, the S.A.S is slightly quieter than the the Gemtech. However, his rifle has a 16" barrel and mine has a 20" barrel and that might have something to do with the results, not sure.

I know there is a sponsor on here that specializes in silencers. His website is very informative and looks like he does all the work for you. Check him out on the sponsor page under Silence America.

If you want the best get a Thunderbeast. I have several different suppressors and the Thunderbeast is awesome. I have a 30P-1 that I use on a 300WTFever and on a Grendel. If you get a center fire suppressor that is not titanium you are looking at hanging nearly 2 pounds on the end of your barrel.

I was just at Gemtech a few days ago looking at their operation. Got to see how the cans were built and talked with the guys that make and sell them. I was impressed enough to start the ball rolling on getting me one. I have ordered the Aris which is made for the .223 class rounds. I am going to have my AR-15 varminter threaded for it as well as my .223 AI and even my Swift. I have lost enough hearing as it is over the years and I would like not to have to lose too much more of it if I can.

And for those that are interested, George Vais of Vais muzzle brake fame was the designer of this suppressor and he designed it so that it is easy to take apart and clean. It also works as a muzzle brake so you get a quiet report and reduced recoil too. Pretty neat.

I hope that all my paper work is in so that I can have it by the time the squirrels start running here in Idaho. It will get quite the work out if I can get it in the field in time.

I don't have one yet, but that's the one that's made my short list so far.

I bought a can and for me I went with the budget YMH 7.62 Phantom with QD attachment and have mounts on my 223, 17 hmr and 300 BLK now. The can is widely regarded as heavier than it needs to be (rated to 300 RUM though), as quiet as many of the others and saved me a few hundred bucks. I consider it a toy as they are not really hollywood quiet. They are hollywood quiet with your ear muffs on though. Anything over 85 Decibels is considered too loud for your hearing and even the quietest cans come in in the 110-120 range. If you want "really" quiet, look at a 22LR can or a pistol Cal can.

Check out a few of the Silencer forums and read some of the reviews. You will find of course many fans of certain manufacturers that will only harp on that brand, make a noise vs cost comparison, and choose what you feel good about.

It does have a cool factor but $800 in your pocket is cool too.

I have the AAC 762SD. Love it. Quick disconnect so you can use it on all calibers from 30-06 down. I use it on my Rock River LAR-8 308 as well as an AR-15 18" rifle.

When I was looking, Gemtech had the only titanium can and the others were stainless. These were my requirements:

1. QUICK DISCONNECT!

2. Price - Gemtech Quicksand was WAY expensive, AAC not so bad, Yankee Hill the least expensive

2. Length - Quicksand longest, AAC next, YHM shortest by 1/4 inch

2. Weight - Quicksand lightest, AAC, then YHM weighed a LOT more.

All things considered, I went with the AAC. I couldn't be happier with my purchase.

Should have my Thunderbeast very shortly on a new custom AR-10, Gunmaker has it and was very inmpressed with the design of the can. Went with Thunderbeast on the recomendation of a buddy who is a law enforcement sniper. He says they are the best thing out there right now and can't be beat as far as precision goes.
