What to do for winter gun camo

I dont have any guns that I care to paint and cant afford a new one so I have a question. I really like taking my AR with on my coyote hunts. What would be a good way to camo it for winter or do you not worry about a black gun sticking out like a sore thumb when out in the snow? What do you think about just making long strips of white cloth about 1 or 2 in wide and tying them around the gun in several places? Id love to have another AR and have it dipped but I cant afford it.
Thanks Daryl P.

I use the camo vet tape on mu ar's. You can also get it in white. I just use the camo because in my area there has not been enough snow to make everything white. And like you I can't bring my self to paint any of my ar's.

Ive not seen it in white. It is Vet tape as in medical tape correct?Hey Maybe gauze would do OK.I like the mothwing snow camo dip but Im doing my only AR like that. Man I sure do hope I can get another before next winter and get it dipped.

If you use the search menu there has been tons of post on the subject. It is basicly the tape that sticks to itself and not to the gun. Vets use it alot for horses.

well i like to use athletic tape its cheap leaves verey little resadue all four of my perdator guns get this covering including my rra now all we need in north iowa is some snow so i have a reason to tape them up give athletic tape a try doubt you will be disapointed

Thats the way I think usually but I wonder sometimes. I can just see me sitting there with all my snow camo on and the tree limbs covered in the white stuff and Im so well hidden and then theres this big black gun in my hands but then like you said I guess it would just look like part of a tree. Besides coyotes dont know the shape of a gun.Right?

Yup they come in lookin for dinner or a fight and you usually see them before they see you. Your gun really isnt that big of an object to stick out that bad. Have you ever seen any Tim Wells movies. I have one and hes called in tons of yotes with his voice and plaid shirts.

this may sound hokey, but i have been using (when we had snow a week or so ago) some old white tube socks that had holes in the toes, i just cut the toes off, and stretched one over the handguard and one over the stock. it kind of breaks up the outline of the gun, which is what camo is really supposed to do to try and help mask movement.

Dont sound hokey to me. Ive had tghat same idea of using tube socks.Just break up the out line. And likewidow maker syas the guns not that big of an object. Besides i usually have my hand on the grip and would have a white glove on and the but stock under my arm while calling. I can see where most of the gun would be hidden anyway. I may do the tube sock thing or just tie some white strands of clothe around it. I just need to get my snow camo outfit from bass pro. Its going to run me around $200 after shipping. Thanks guys.

I have used the tube socks before , also bits of an old white t-shirt and laced it on with some string or taped it in place. Another thing I have used is PTFE/Teflon Tape / Plumbers tape , it reallysticks to itself good and removes easily without residue also. Works about as good as the vet tape. The PTFE is also easy to use on the scope since it is smaller than the vet tape.

Unless all the yotes are looking at gun catalogs I don't think they know what a gun looks like. I do know they notice movement and they like to run after seeing movement. I don't have any camoed guns but I am camoed up in snow camo and white from head to toe, or regular brush camo so far this year since we are still snow free and it looks to stay that way until after the new year. (Gosh I Sure Miss Shoveling)

I can't bring myself to paint my RRA rifle so I made this cover for it.

Yes, you have a keep adjusting it as it gets moved around while you're carrying it, but it was cheap and easy to make.
The one on the barrel is just slipped over, the one of the scope is held on with rubber bands on both ends.

I've got them in a brown desert camo and a greenish camo too.
