what to do with coyote hides?

I am thinking about starting coyote hunting. I would feel bad about burying or leaving the coyote. Sounds like wasteing it. I wouldnt be able to skin it. Are there any fur buyers that will buy the whole coyote? and if there are how much $5?, $10?, $15?

My fur guy buys it only during prime fur season. Buying em fur on is called on the round. I know some guys that will only take fur that way (so we donot mess it up). Beyond fur guys also taxidermiest will buy a few now and then. Most I have gotten on the round has been $25 and the average is $8. It really depends year to year what they are worth and the area your from, quality of pelt size color etc.

If you do not have a fur buyer hunt anyways. At the very least taking a out a yote ensures more desirable game, keeps them in check, and helps out with the ranchers. I figure every yote shot saves a couple fawns for me to hunt in the next year. And if your new it will be a while before you start putting any sort of hurt on the yote population.

Don't know how to skin a coyote? Learn. Good "How-to" video is called "The 3-minute coyote". Another is called "Hunting and Skinning for Profit".

well i could skin the coyote but I would probably poke lots of wholes and i wouldnt know what to do with it once i got it off. I dont want to go through all the trouble of skinning and tanning it and it would look horrible. I wouldnt be able to sell it to any buyer. i just dont think it would be worth my time to try.

i think it would be easier and more profitable for me to sell the whole coyote than to masacre and ruin the hide by skinning it myself.

You do not tan the hide. All you need to do is skin, flesh, wash, and stretch the pelt. Plus sew up the bullet holes. If you do this the furbuyers will pay 2 or 3 times as much as they will for a dead carcass. Besides, you need to get a carcass to a buyer fast, before it starts to spoil. The Hunting & Skinning video I mentioned shows step-by-step how to do it. Selling fur is a serious business, and it is a business. Learn about it before you bite off more than you can chew.

ok so once i skin it off of the carcass, then i try to get off all of the meat and stuff then wash it with soap and water? and to stretch it i poke holes every few inches and tie it to a frame so it stretches while it dries? so it will dry and then how long will it last before it spoils?

If you don't want to flesh, stretch, and dry the hide, just skin it, roll up the hide and freeze it until you are ready to take them to the fur buyer. Thaw the hides out a day before you want to take them to the buyer.

Not worth the 3 dollars I got this year, so I doubt I will be skinning any this coming year.

Would taxidermists take a coyote for free to practice on or whatever? Im sure they could put it to good use. Wouldn't that be better than leaving them lay.

If you have a problem leaving them lay, make sure you have a buyer or use before hand , or dont hunt. If it's that important to you that some use comes of the coyotes you kill, then you would think it would be important enough for you to take the time to porperly lern how to skin and put up furs.

i saw this stuff while i was grocery shopping by the salt. It is pickling salt or something like that. Have any of you heard of anything like this or did I misread it while i was in a hurry? It is meant for curing meat i guess. I will take a closer look next time and read everything.

You won't find what you need to tan a hide in a grocery store. You should read the thread by Jim Champion [River Runner] on Tanning 101 that is tacked at the top of this section. It will give you a very good understanding of the steps required.

yes ur right. i went and looked at it closer today. The pickling salt is just regular salt except it is pure 100% salt. I guess it is just basically regulay salt packaged fancy. But when i quick looked at it the first time it said used for "curing meat". And you are suppose to rub salt on the hides, so i thaught that it would be good to use. But it isnt anything special.
