hello everyone!

i really want to get into trying to trap some raccoons and maybe some coyotes, but im not sure on traps. i think i need the dog proof traps that coons stick their foot into for raccons. but im not sure on coyotes? i think the #2 coil spring traps for coyotes. but if im wrong please tell me! or even if their is a better trap for around the same price. also, should i use these or the snare traps? and whats a good site to get them from?
thanks!
GOD BLESS
Luke

bamayote23, you are right on the coon trap and the #2 coil spring for coyotes. The only snare trap you can use here is a foot snare. It is not legal to hang snares in trails or on fence crawl unders in Alabama.

Most on-line trapping supply dealers will be good.

Hope this helps

You sure can. Just make sure you have it staked down real good. You can catch a cat, fox and yote in a 1.5. Set on the game trails that run parallel to a creek bank. I mean 5 to 10 feet from the edge of the creek. Good way of catching a cat.

ok thanks! and i just now read about using a pvc pipe stuck into the bank of a creek w/ the trap below it in the water. is this a good set up?

yes you can use a PVC pipe stuck in the side of a creek bank. Go to the Dollar General and pick up a can of Jack Mackeral in the food section. Cheaper than sardines. Place several spoonfuls of JackMac down the PVC and place the 1 1/2 directly below the end of the pipe.

Are you anywhere around Athens? Game & Fish and the State trappers association hold a Trappers Workshop for kids near the Browns Ferry Power Plant every winter.

I think 1.34 would be a better choice for fox/coyote. A #2 is too big of a trap for fox. While a 1.5 will hold coyotes, I still think they're too small.

Duke traps are about the lowest price I've seen for new traps. They work for me.

Also keep your eyes open at yard and garage sales. Folks will sell stuff like that for pennies.

For coon a 1.5 will work decent, but a smaller trap, with a shorter reach is even better. I use mostly #3 Bridgers fully modified, I mainly target coyote. I don't feel a #2 is too big for red fox. Out of the 150 or so traps I have, I only have about 20 #2 traps.

go become a member at huntinglonewolf and he can tell you alot of things you need to know. im not real sure on traps for racoons if were guessing i would say probably a 1.5 bridger. and for yotes #2 bridger fully modified with shock springs will do the job.

I like 1 1/2 drownder sets for leg holds and like the post above bucket with a 220 coni in it will sure do wonders. I like #3s 4 coiled for coyotes and i like #2s 4coiled for bobcats. I love live trapping bobcats as well. The 4coil gives the traps a little quicker snap out of the grown and hold a little better as well. The 4 coils really shine in colder temps where they have to punch threw semi frozen ground.
