What wildcat for a .223 rechamber

You mean the .222 remington magnum! I remeber a friend of my Dads had one. When I was young we would have shootout/cookout kinda thing and that was the first rifle I think I ever shot.

Actually it is a 222 Rem Mag IMP.

The 22-204 is what I would do with a small bolt face. Run it in a 1-9 twist for maximum fun!

Actually it's not. I'd call it more of a 222RM Gibbs, as the shoulder is blown forward .275" ala Gibbs rounds.

I think I've posted this pic a hundred times.....

Some cases for comparison.....

221 Fireball --- 222 Rem --- 223 REM --- 223 Ackley --- 222 Rem mag --- 22-204

The the 22-204 has about one more grain capacity than a 223 Ackley and almost two more than a 222 RM, and NO FIREFORMING required.

Because the 22-204 reamer won't clean up a 223 AI chamber, and I was talking about the 222 Rem Mag IMP, we are splitting hairs.

I was just trying to be practical in the discussion.

BTW, the 22-204 has nothing over the 222RM IMP except brass availability.

You can run a 223AI reamer in deep enough and use 204 Ruger brass and build a 22-204AI, slightly straighter case and 40 degree shoulder. That will clean up a 223AI chamber. Alf over at Savage Shooters built one like that.
