What would be/is your dream long range custom rig?

Cartridges I would consider:
6 Dasher, 6XC, 6 Creed, and 243 Win (7.5 T for 105/107 class bullets), Would start with the 105 A-Max...will expand faster on tissue
6.5x47L and 6.5 Creed (8T for the 120-143 grain bullets).

Top three for me would be 6 XC, 6 Creed and the Dasher.
I have XC's and a Dasher. I don't have 6Creed yet

What is this 7LR?

I have alot of factory rifles, and love my weatherbys. Ok I know, stoo throwing rocks. I want to rebuild Ugly Betty, my mkv synthetic. The goal is to finish under 12 pounds.
Mkv action
7mm300wea 28 inch barrel with a straight taper to .700 at the muzzle. Heavy flutes
Mcmillan M40 style stock
20mil rail
NF rings
NF NXS 5x25

Me too..
I have been thinking of building up a long range 1000yrd rifle, that is under 10# and has to be able to drop an Elk out to 600.

I think that 6.5 is about the lowest i could go and want to stay below the 30cal size.

7mm,260,270 a a couple others are seeming like the choice. (without customizing brass, or i should say that i can buy factory ammo for it too but prefer to hand load)

280 Rem, 280AI, 7 RM, and 7 LRM will all work within your paramters.
SA? 7 SAUM

In the 7 world, what is the most logical (without opening a can of worms) caliber out there? Good old 7RM, or something in the SAUM area? I have shot 7mags and 7 saums, but not enough to know anything about them. I would assume brass would be big consideration, and as I understand it most tend to say to stay away from belted cases? Something else I know not much about. I would like to set one up to run 195 VLDS....hm now the wheels are turning. Im off to do some research.

With xyz barrel length, I want the 195 Hybrid to have a impact velocity of what?
What would be your answer?
I see a build as tool to fill a gap or meet a need.
I decide the performance I want with said barrel length and bullet, then I choose the cartridge that will either meet or exceed that.
Now you get to do homework to figure out what cartridge(s) meet your design goals for the action length you want.
I know the SAUM kills to 6 just fine for elk, but not sure I would use the 195 as my ideal bullet choice in a SA/7 SAUM.
Maybe it would work great...I don't know
In a LA you more options.
If weight with a LA is an issue, think Proof Research Carbon barrels.

Hey Brian,
did you know Chris M. that shoots with us has a 7 SAUM?
I'm sure he would be glad to help you out any way he could.

Or a handful of them! I can't imagine life without a 7RM, plus a 7-08 to play with at shorter ranges, and a 7x57M just for fun (I'm probably the only one left though), and I keep finding myself looking for another 7 Dakota...

Ernie, thanks for help. I did some limited research Saturday, and then didn't stop working rest of weekend. I will dig back into it.

Jeff, I think I have spoke with chris a few times about his. Also I spoke another friend sat night about his. I have seen his hammer 1300yds like it was nothing. SO, after speaking with him, he brought up a lot of points that were already circling in my head. I would not be hunting with rifle, so terminal velocity is null. I do not have a place to shoot a mile either. IF I am still dead set on a 7 of some form, the SAUM would absolutely make the most sense right this moment. Oh, and 180s over the 195s too.
