What's a fair price

It seems the average AR is going for around $2,000 right now. I'd check prices on Gunbroker & set accordingly. You may have to strike while the iron is hot, so to speak with the sale.
 
"Fair Price" How much did you pay for it from the store? That is a "fair price" but it is now used so a little less would be fair. The prices people are trying to get on GB or other places is not a "fair price". It is a jacked up, gouge other people price.
 
A fair price when you bought it and a fair price today are completely different due to changing market conditions. The best way to get a fair price would be an auction site and let the market determine the selling price. You won't have any input on the final sale price unless you set a reserve.

I went in my local gun store yesterday and a mini 14 I could have bought for about $650 last week was $979. Did I cry about the price? No. I bought an AR10 from the same dealer for $1,400 on the 18th, could have bought it the day before for $1,200 I wasn't going to wait around because it would have been gone a few minutes later.

I haven't seen an AR sell for under $1,500 since the Presidents last speech. I also bought some AR mags last week for a good price online. The next day I paid 150% more for the same mags at the same place. I went to order more the following day and they were sold out.

Some people are having a hard time adjusting to what's going on right now. Don't let anyone manipulate you into selling for less than market.
 
I know of 2 that are for sale (R15-.204 & 17Remington custom build..not sure of username but was member here)and the guys price today is the same as it was 2 months ago. $1,000. and $1,200. respectively..I think the R15 is $200 less than what he paid.
But, I have to agree with above post; get what you can for it. I laugh a little because one person who has been interested in the R15 is STILL trying to talk him down to $800.00

and no...it wasn`t me..if that R15 was .223 Rem. I would have went and snatched it up.

ETA- IMO, a `fair price` is whatever somone is willing to pay.

In this climate I'd put it on an auction site. Prices for guns are no different than gold, gas, milk, or anything else. The only people who are outraged and angry at others for the high prices are the ones who missed the boat before the jump. If you sell it at a price that doesn't offend anyone, it will get snatched up and resold at market price anyway. Nobody "needs" one of these right now and pouting about someone's profit due to a mutual agreement is sad.
 
I would sell it for what you have in it. It is a rare chance to recover your money completely and will still be a bargain to the new owner. No one has to feel used. But let your conscience be your guide, and understand that there is a small possibility that you may not be able to buy another one someday. Ere is value in that too.

Nobody gets "gouged" involuntarily......the American Way.....supply and demand.....if someone doesn't like the price, they can walk away.....

Reb, your not so bad after all.

I have more AR's than I or my family will ever wear out in a lifetime. I refuse to take advantage of someone while they are in panic mode and I refuse to sell at a price I see as reasonable because the next guy will just sell it at a huge profit and take advantage. People need to realize when the head of household gets panicked and feels the world is going to end and they must have an AR or the life it in jeopardy they will pay anything. Families are going without and kids are going hungry just so some can make there profit on current marked trends. I stand to my guns that what people are doing is bad and my personal morals will not let me take advantage. This is my rant, nothing more or nothing less.
 
I personally would not gouge anyone on the price of something, but I ain't selling nothing either. However, I have no sympathy for the panic buyers or the ones getting gouged, they put themselves in this position. I knew this was going to happen, you knew this was going to happen, we knew this was going to happen...How come THEY didn't? If you wait until the water is waist deep to shop for waders, you deserve your soggy britches you are wearing.

What I would consider fair is not what you would consider fair. Most here including I would be interested to know what you end up deciding.
 
I was offered from my local FFL. $1,600 But I'm not sure he's got the Jack. I'm not looking to screw anyone on the price. At the end of the day I have to lay my head down to sleep and know I did not screw anyone over.
 
Seems like we're having a lot of these discussions right now.

About the AR the op posted about, I handled one just like it before the panic, and it's one of the nicest factory rigs I've seen. The gs owner said he prefers that brand and I could see why.
 
If you were offered from a dealer $1600 and had to sell that would be a fair price to get. He will run it to $2k perhaps and the new buyer then would think its fair.
A local pawnshop has 2 AR15s on consignment here for $2500 each FIRM & he said the seller will not negotiate.
Im not buying into the panic and shake my head.
