What's a good 1-piece mount for flattop AR?

So the LaRue goes for around $200, the Armalite for $75 to $100(ish. If I am just concerned with a solid mount but one that will likely not be taken off more than once or twice a year, which is the better buy? The only thing I have really seen that makes LaRue worth the money is their return too zero. Otherwise does the Armalite "stack up"?

LaRue has a great following and his scope mount is a quality item. The only thing I see wrong is most of them have a purple tint to them, sort of like the Bushmasters did a few years ago, yet I've not read a single word about it.

The Armalite mount does return to zero if you mount it the same, that's the beauty of the Picatinny rail. Same as the carry handles and Weaver rings for that matter. I just don't see the need to be quick detachable. The only negative I've heard is some say they are too low for them even though they are on the same plane as the iron sights.

As I've stated before it's best to try each mount for yourself then decide which is best for you. I went through at least 6 different mounts before deciding on the Armalite. There was nothing wrong with any of the others, this one just fits ME better. As for the price difference, it's only money, I paid $250.00 for an LMT Crane stock, twice, because they fit ME better than any other I've tried. If I was switching back and forth between an Eotech and a scope I might spring for the LaRue. Determine what your needs are and try them both if you can.

Good luck.

I've been very pleased with my Armalite mount. I've removed it a few times and had a complete return to zero each time. Not quick to detech necessarily, but I've never needed to do so quickly.

Got my One Piece 30mm Scope Mount from Model 1 Sales today.

Looks awesome & very well built!! Kind of heavy @ 10 oz.
but looks to be bullet proof!! With it's skelatonized base it's a lot better looking(and probably lighter)than the other one piece mounts..., IMHO!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Thanks for the "heads-up" on this one TimeTraveler!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Nice Zeb, /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

You mean you didnt half to cough up 2 smackers for a mount? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

I think that one looks solid and will do you just fine. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I've owned the Armalite and now I have the LaRue. On the next AR I purchase there will be a LaRue right from the start.

Depending on the rifle..., if I wanted a quick release 1-piece mount for a SHTF rifle I would probably spend the extra $$ and go with the LaRue, but in my case I use a Eotech & BUIS set up for Absolute co-witness on my SHTF AR & don't need the quick release option.

My Varmint AR's get Tactical Precision's TRS Tactical Series X-High Rings on a GG&G firerail which makes an ultra soild mounting system.

The Model-1 One Piece mount fits the bill perfectly for my Predator AR and only cost $73 to my door!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Yes indeed..., $73.00 to my door!

It took a small amount of lapping, as most rings do in my experience, but all in all a great bang for the buck!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
