whats a good aftermarket stock for a 700 sps varmint

Sir, lots out there, but "bedded already" ? the purpose of the bedding is to make the very best contact between the rifle's action and the stock. Removing all vibrations between the two parts through out all activities and firing. It is very easy to do- if you like I can write up the process and you can get a stock that is inletted for fit and bed it yourself. I bedded my first rifle when I was 15 some 3xs ago. I would do it for you if I was in N CA. Very easy job- after one you will want to do all your buddies rifles. The only hard step is committing to the job.

i am looking at a couple stock deals right now- one of which is B&C as noted above- go to their web site pick your fancy and cost. The other is a Boyde stock- on their web site- I think they only they work in laminates not compositis. Today I bought a pair of gray laminate encore stocks on line- so much cheaper than working through a supply company like Midway or Calebas/BP,.... Good luck and let me know if I need to spec out the job for you- I am about to bed a 788 custom and a 700 SA in a couple days as soon as the new 700 stock arrives. SO I can take lots of pictures as needed. But PM me to keep low drag on the site. Good luck. jhg

My first choice for an inexpensive stock would be a factory Remington VLS handle. That should run about $125 or so. Sand out the forend hump, bed the lug, and roll. I harbor intense dislike for most H-S and B&C varmint/tactical stocks.

Here's my .308 SPS in a B&C stock with a Karsten adjustable cheek piece after shortening the factory barrel.

Here's a 5 shot 200 yard target shot with the same rifle.

I like the stock. It works well for this rifle. The adjustable cheek piece is easy to install. Two drilled holes and it's done.

Here's the website for the cheek piece.

+1 for b/c. I put one on a 243 that use to be a classic then I picked up a barrel from a guy here and then install a b/c stock. Very pleased with it. I had to do a little sanding but it shoots really good.
