What's everyone using for bug spray?

Just a heads up to you guys. Most bug sprays can be very hard on the finishes of your hand calls, so be careful when using them.

I have been useing avon bug guard plus (pump spray)for the past 6-7yrs and it works great. Non greasy and has sun screen.

Deep woods off here. Put it on my ankle and wrist cuffs, waist and neck lines and hat bill. Had a coyote pop out of the brush within 20' of me a few weeks ago and saw me try and move the rifle. I smelled him when I saw him, but he obviously didn't smell me. No wind moving, so not sure if that was why I got by with it. Called another the same morning to 43yds and never got busted and had a bear sniffing within 40yds the same day. I'd say if you work the wind and don't take a bath in it you should be fine.

I'm going to give that Avon stuff a try.
I tried a recommended brand a few weeks ago.
Kept the ticks off but the danged chiggers seemed to really
like it.

Avon Bug Guard Plus. Works better than anything I have tried, and is all natural. I still have some military 100% DEET stuff I would probably have to call in HAZMAT to dispose of. I remember putting it on years ago, then using a pen I had to write something down. The black on the pen actually started coming off on my fingers. I used it a couple times since, but just putting a couple drops on my collar, no more skin contact.

Permethrin will kill stuff right on your clothes.

Recent research has been showing that DEET applied to your skin can cause neurological problems in some folks, so I use it mostly on gloves and head nets.

I don't know why I even worry about it. I ain't never been normal anyway.

We get this stuff issued like crazy. It sure does work! The sand fleas in Iraq are terrible without it.

+1

That permethrin stuff is what is in dog flea and tick shampoo. You can buy a giant concentrated bottle that will make about 50 gallons for around 20 bucks. Just dilute it in some water. Use it on my dog all the time but sure as heck not on me.

be careful with any insect repellent lotion or liquid...my brother lost about all the finish on his Browning BAR while hunting in the lower country of S.C.

The Permetrin is the stuff to use....you can buy a 8 or 10 oz bottle at Tractor supply for under $10...mix one ounce of the Permetrin to 20 ounces of water.....soak you clothes down in it before hand and let it dry....lasts for weeks.

I spray my clothes with Permanone as it KILLS ticks and fleas Shortly after/on contact and lasts 4-6 washings.
I will, if necessary spray exposed skin with "whatever" bug spray that contains 20% or more DEET.The last couple of weeks I have been using a lot of "Off Deep Woods Sportsman". I have been doing a LOT of yard work in a certain part of the yard that seems to have an abnormal amount of mosquitoes. The "Deep Woods Off" has done a fine job of keeping all the little buggers from biting me.
I have done some reasonably serious study on bug repellants and have discovered: Based upon US Army studies Permanone sprayed on your clothes AND a 'product' that contains at least 20% DEET, the little bitty bitin' buggers will leave you alone.
As, to hunting coyotes: the odor of your bug repellent is of little consequence because if they can smell the bug repellant they can smell YOU.
