What's harder to call in, Fox or Coyote?

Hey guys I got out calling for the first time yesterday and we called in and bagged a nice Red Fox. Anyway, we were at the shooting range later that day to sight in my friend's deer rifle and we ran into a guy we knew and he asked why we were dressed in camo. We told him about the Fox and then he tells us " Yeah those Fox are easy to call in, alot easier than a Coyote". I had never heard that before but I'd like to know what you guys opinion is on that? I've called in alot more Coyotes than Foxes myself, but I know the Fox are less concentrated around here.

This is just my opinion, so take it as such. I have killed many, many of both fox and coyote. I think fox are something like half as smart as coyotes. Way easier to call and kill. Problem here is, as opposed to the east, you only find them in certain areas, while coyotes have a much broader range. So while I ultimately kill more coyotes, I still say fox are easier by a long shot.

I would have to say Fox are easier, they seem to be way less wary of people and when they get playful they will ignore things that would put a coyote in the next county.

Around here in Central Georgia, I usually have gray fox coming to the call pretty easy. (Depending on the calling sequence I use) Coyotes are more of a hit and miss as their territory is larger. About the only time that gray fox don't come in is when I use either the mojo critter or edge expedite coyote decoy. Seems that the grays just don't like the look of an aggressive yote standing around in the area. As for not showing up often with the mojo, I think the motion causes them to hang up and be a tad fearful. (Just my opinion). All in all, we have a ton of gray fox around here and it's a shame we can only take them for 2 months of the year. Even during fox/bobcat season, I'll usually pass on the opportunity to knock one of them down simply because I'd rather wait for a yote to respond to the call.

I gotta go with fox. I have been on a hunt where the same fox was shot, ran off, another showed, and was shot DRT. When we tracked the first, we lost the sign and after a few hours gave up. Went and skinned the first and found two bullet holes in it. Coyotes are pretty slick operators.

This has been my observation as well. I think I just has to do with the red foxes diet and they don't seem as curious as grey fox and coyotes when it comes to distress sounds.

In my previous post I meant to say that red fox are easier than coyotes to call. Not nearly as wary as a coyote. However, I have never hunted real educated red fox. I think if they got pressure like coyotes they would be a little harder. I grew up in an area with a lot of fox. Coyotes weren't around because of the 1080. When the 1080 was banned the coyotes rebounded in about 2 years. Up until that time all I had called was fox and never found them difficult to call.

We have gray fox here and they are easy to call. You can throw an e-caller out with a fox sound on and they come running. No camo, no cover, no special set-up required. We set up on a two track (primitive dirt road) sitting on one side with a caller and decoy on the other and they come running straight to the call. We have had them run up to the road, stop and look right at us and still go after the call and decoy. We have sat in the truck and played the e-caller out the window and had them run right up to the truck just to see if they would!

Foxes here are way easier than coyotes!

Coyotes are the toughest, bobcats are dumb, redfox aren't so much wary as they are not really interested. Hard to think about a rabbit when you have 3 mice in your guts.

In my neck of the woods DEFINITELY coyote. Grey fox come running right in and eat your caller.

I've killed countless fox over the years but only a handful of coyote.

I've lip squeaked a Coyote into my parked truck before.

I can't say one is harder than the other myself. I've had both hang up and not come all the way in and I've called in plenty of both.
