What's harder to call in, Fox or Coyote?

well i lip squeaked in a pair of grays in pa and shot one with my bow, then got a shot at the other, and missed! but no joke one night out spotlighting PA we lip squeaked in 6 grays we seen with the light, from the road, with the truck running, to within 40 yards

I think it is a geographic and population density thing. Here, I seem to be able to call grey fox easier than anything. Red fox is a second since most of my areas are wooded, and coyotes a third since I rarely see any while calling and have pursued them the least. The coyote sightings for me seem to be more incidental than called in. I see more reds than anything, but most are not called but observed while out and about. The reds seem more tolerant of civilization than the others, but more call shy than greys. For me the hardest is bobcat. I've called them into range and seen sign where they were there watching me, but have never gotten the scope on one yet. Nothing like walking away from an hour long set in the snow to double back and find cat urine and tracks on top of your own not half hour after you left

I must be the exception to the rule here. We have a lot of red fox here and it frustrates me no end trying to call them in. We have coyote as well and what I THINK is happening? is the same call(s) that appeal to the fox? appeal to the coyote as well. Since mr. red doesn't want to wind up as coyote entertainment they are not so willing to come to the call.

In 10 years of hunting both? we have called ONE red in and he wanted to rumble with my wife. Not a smart thing to do since she really knows how to shoot.

I hunted in an area of Montana where they had really hammered the coyotes and they were pretty scarce. I called up 6 red foxes in one evening but no coyotes so I guess the lack of larger predators may have something to do with it.

My take on Bobcats are they are not that hard to call but they can be slow to come in and are very stealthy so they pick out the hunter unless he is hidden and still so a good many are called and never seen. While I did not keep an exact number I know I called over 3 dozen Bobcats last season but that was exceptional usually I call about half that many.
