what's the best coyote rifle?

You have really asked a question that is impossible to obtain the right answer on because... there isn't one !! Do your homework, find one that fits you, and use it. All your going to get here is a whole lot of opinions...all of which are the right answer for each person. Find your right answer. :eek:

I have yet to see one mention.I seen a savage 223 over 12 gauge down at the gunshop.Has anyone have something like that they use and would this be a good gun also?
I already have the ruger 22-250 but I like to carry shotgun to.

Ruger M77 .223 or, I'd have to agree with Kendog. The faster the bullet the more fun! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

High Country, Re-read my post, the gun you are referring to is the Savage 24f, and ya, It is a great gun, straight shooter, real good to hold steady, because it weighs a bunch, if I have to travel very far, I will take the Ruger 77 compact, 223 that is always with it. But for short stands the 24f gets the nod most of the time.

Grayghost;
Must have missed that.the gun dose have alot of weight to it but id rather carry one than two.Think I might have to go get one of those work horses.Thanks

Make me happy, just reach in the cabinet and grab a shooter!!!!!!!!! Realistically, if you want fur keep it 6mm or under. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
But if you don't, fast is fun--but big is a blast!!!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif You haven't seen anything until you watch a yote do a back flip!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I have a Howa 223 and its a great shooter, only 350 brand new. And i like the 223 ammo cause its cheap, the black hills ammo in the blue box is excellent. but im looking to get a Savage 24f 223/12 combo to have as a truck gun so that is where it will stay for when i happen to see that yote or grouse and forget to grab a gun from the house.

I have a 6-24x40 on mine but i wish i would of just put a regular ol 3-9x40 on it. I may take it off and sell it and put a 3-9x40 on it.

Thunder34>> just read WolverineAtWork's post! thats all the info you need to start,, good luck

I would, and did, opt for a decent bolt action .223 with a low power variable scope. If you don't plan on double duty (coyotes and varmints), I'd go with something like a 1.5-5 or so. For double duty guns, get a good 3-9X40.

the perfect rifle is there such an animal?
Mine a ruger m77 in 22-250, 3x9 weaver scope,(50mm objective)b-square bi-pod, advantage camo tape and 4000 fps handloads.

Lots of excellent guns mentioned. Hard to go wrong with any rifle chambered in .22-250, but I'm biased. .223s, .220 Swifts, .243s all are great calibers for coyotes as well.

Invest in a new rifle unless you're sure a used one isn't too used.

My favourite is the SAKO 75 Stainless laminated stock varmint in .223. On top of which I have the Nikon Monarch 6.5x - 20x with 44mm obj. Consistent groups under 1/2" with everything upto 60gr Starke. Very nice little rig but perhaps a tad heavy 9-1/2lb to lug around all day.
