What's The Best Rifle Scope For Night Hunting

I just purchased a new NEF Single Shot 22-250. Most of the calling I do is at night. I use the Western Rivers Mighty-Max light with a red lense. What type of scope would you guys use for this setup. I was having problems with a few Red Fox and Coyotes hanging up about 100 yards out and could't get them to come in within shotgun range. I am hoping that this will help solve the problem, but am undecided on what kind of scope to go with. Does it need to be an illuminated scope? I would like to try to stay in the $150-$175 price range. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I use a Konus 3-10x44 w/illuminated reticle. The crosshairs are eched into the lens. I'm amazed at the amount of light transition. It sells for around 150.00 and it's a #7254. I'm very pleased with it. www.konus.com

You are opening a can of worms now. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif I think everyone has their personal favorite. Leupold! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I realize that Leupold would be a Top Choice, but as I said, I am looking for the best scope and still stay in the $150-$175 price range. I don't believe I can find a Leupold that cheap!

Leupold is the way to go. spend the extra money and you wont ever have to worry about buying another scope for that gun. they also have awesome light transmisson. Nikon also makes a really nice scope and bushnell. im a leupold man though

If you are night hunting stay with the larger objectives for light gathering ability. Your funds are limiting you to scopes like Simmons, BSA, maybe a Bushnell lower end scope. My suggestion is to stay with the lower powers and larger objectives 44mm or 50mm. A 3x9x50 would do the trick.

Spend a tad bit more and maybe you can get a Mueller 4x16x50 Illuminated reticle. That will help grab you eye to the center of the scope. 4X is low enough for night hunting and the 16X is high enough for about anything you will ever need power for.

BSA make a killer scope. My dad has one mounted on his .17 with the illuminated red crosshairs. There very visible at night and can be adjusted from just a hint of red to bright red.

I have used and still have a BSA with the illuminated reticule. I just took it off my 22 mag last year for a Burris. I shot a lot of animals at night using that scope. For the money I would recommend it.

Ditto on the Mueller. Line up your dot with his two and squeeze....

make it three for Mueller. I have the eradicator on a .270 that has taken deer way into "too dark" for me to mention on a public forum. Mine has the 50mm objective for lots of light and an illuminated red dot.

You can find better scopes but you wont find a better scope for the money.

I know what it is to live on budget. Leupold will wait until my kids are out on their own after college.
