What's the Difference 700 XCR vs. LTR ??????

I have a 223 XCR and a 308 LTR, both compacts, 20" tubes. Other than the color of the stock and $200+ for the XCR, I can't tell too much difference. Both are 1 holers with about any thing you put down the pipe.
I just can't see or don't know what jumps the price on the XCRs.

I must be missing something ???????

XCR is the "Extreme Conditions Rifle". I think there's some kind of different coating or finish on it to keep it from rusting.

edit to add...(from Remington's website) I think your LTR is chrome moly, not stainless. Don't see the LTR on the website anymore.

The most durable hunting rifle ever built. Featuring our TriNyte® Corrosion Control System, the introduction of the Model 700 XCR in 2005 stretched the previous durability limits of stainless steel. And for 2010, the Model 700 XCR II is redefining its looks as well. The stainless steel barrel and receiver are now coated with matte black TriNyte for a more classic look with less glare for superior stealth. It's every bit as impervious to extreme conditions, with the same proven track record in accelerated saltwater testing that opened the world's eyes to the power of our patented technology. Simply put, TriNyte delivers scratch and corrosion resistance dramatically superior to standard stainless steel as well any protective coating by any other manufacturer.

The Model 700 XCR II is also optimized for sure handling in adverse climates. Its feature-laden olive drab green synthetic stock is a technological marvel that looks and feels the part with patented Hogue® rubber overmolding featured at the grip and fore-end areas. These revolutionary enhancements give you a positive grip in the slickest environments. And shots are made infinitely more comfortable with our SuperCell™ recoil pad - the most effective on the market today. Our X-Mark Pro® Trigger System gives you a level of crispness and shot control once only available through high-dollar customization. Choose from a wide range of hard-hitting big-game cartridges, all delivered with the track-driving accuracy only a legendary Model 700 barreled action could produce.

ROGER on the accuracy end for both ! I thought they were HS Precession stocks, not Hogue . Both look the same in the stock end of things, alum bed and pillers. LTR barrel is most likely the difference. Out of all the ones I ever bought, these two rifles impressed me the most "right out of the box".
I used to love pretty wood stocks. No more. These two rifles simply put are shooting machines !

Thanks for the info !

You can find the 700P LTR on Remingtion Law Enforcement web site- see;

I have in .223, H.S. Prescison stock..great rifle. At one time H.S. Precision was the standard stock though believe they did substitute another premium stock when availability ran short. I do not own a Hogue center-fire full length bedding block stock however I am sure I'd be happy with one-Hogue does good stuff, IMHO.

I bought the XCR in .308 a couple months ago. Put a Nikon Monarch on top and say it is a tackdriver would be an understatement. 5 into one ragged hole at 100 yds.

Mine is the compact tactical with 20" barrel btw. Is quickly becoming my favorite.

I have both the .308 and .223in the XCR compact and they both shoot great. I believe the stocks on the compacts are Bell and Carlson stock with the aluminum bedding block and 40X trigger.

The XCR hads a 40x external adjustable trigger, a butt hook stock and a lot more green pigment in the stock paint.

Justified $'s? Heck I don't know. I used to buy LTR's for $675 so all the prices seem crazy to me.
