I was thinking on trying the act of mising this year. I have read in predator mag about this and cant find anywhere about the mix? I understand the mix of diff. smells but how much water do you dilute all that with? I was wandering if anybody had ever made up any? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

Rich Higgins is big on this misting thing (he might have written the article you read). I'd PM him and I'm sure he'll answer. If you don't get him this is what I know, they use a fairly deluted mixture (Edit: this is wrong don't delute the mixture) of coyote urin and water. You'll neeed spray bottle that produces a very fine mist. The idea is to dump a bunch of scent in the air, but not too much. Mist before and during your calling, if a coyote shows mist some more. That's about it.

You might get some arguement but the way I look at it..... well it can't hurt.

I've been wondering about this too. My understanding was it was several types of urine mixed together, coyote, fox, bobcat, racoon. Not sure of the ratios or if the whole mix is then diluted.

peace.

Sulli, I'm with you. Any one of those by themselves is nasty. A little tip, I use the straight coyote urine to keep the deer off my fruit trees and flowers in the yard and it works great. I have not heard of the diluted misting method, but I do spray a rag and drag it around behind me when walking into a set as a way to mask the trail. You definitely don't want it on you when you get back in your rig to drive, so the overspray would be a concern of mine also.

I think "misting" is here to stay. My only problem is getting the darn critters to pee in my jar. For some reason, they just don't see it my way!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif J/K!!

OK, I know, someone had to do it, so it might as well be me. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

In all seriousness, misting is a great idea, I just need to remember to use it more! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Do not spray into the wind.
When transporting the mist have a friend drive, in his rig.
Do not spray into the wind.
Do not mix the mist in your wife's sink, or house.
Do not spray into the wind.

fellas Rich Higgins is one of the biggest promoters of misting that I know, it's even possible that you read an article or two on the subject penned by him. If anybody knows how to mix up a bottle of misting spray it would be Rich.

Do those rules fall in the catagory of "personal lessons learned the hard way" Rich? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Yup! And pretty much in that order. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif

Michael,
LBLDOG contacted me by PM and I answered his question in there. I didn't slough him off. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I don't mind at all.
LBLDOG asked me the question in the pm section so that's where I answered.
I use equal parts bobcat, greyfox, rabbit, and coyote urine. I do not cut it with water. I do strain it first with pantyhose and again with a coffee filter. I've added clam juice and vanilla extract in the past which may or may not have helped to acheive an overload. I use a trigger sprayer from Wal-Mart that adjusts to a very fine mist. The whole key is to get lots of it settled downwind BEFORE the animal gets there.
Ralph Lermeyer is using this recipe for hogs and deer with success as well as for predators.
