What's Up With Colin Powell

I know that everyone has heard about Powell's rant on racism in the GOP, the party that gave him his voice in politics that he now trashes. Here's an article. What's going on with him now? Why does he pick this point in time to start biting the hand that fed him? He didn't get to being a Commander of the United States Forces Command, the first black Secretary of State, and the Chairman of the Joint Chief of Staff by acting on a whim. He knows what it is to use strategy to gain an objective. So why is he playing the race card now? Must be the right time for him to get behind Zero for some reason. Only time will tell...

For some odd reason “Republican” Colin Powell supported the most radical far left president in history in 2012. Now he’s lashing out at Republicans who oppose Obama.

Republican Colin Powell told “Meet the Press” today that the GOP has a “dark vein of intolerance.” As an example he pointed out that former Governor John Sununu called Obama lazy. He also attacked Sarah Palin.
Ugh.

The Politico LINK reported:

While continuing to identify as a Republican, former Secretary of State Colin Powell on Sunday criticized the GOP for a series of racist attacks against President Barack Obama.

“There’s also a dark vein of intolerance in some parts of the party,” Powell said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” “What do I mean by that? What I mean by that is they still sort of look down on minorities.”

Powell, who endorsed Obama, pointed to a number of statements that were directed at Obama as evidence that there is still racism within the party.

“When I see a former governor say that the president is ‘shuckin’ and jivin’.’ That’s a racial-era slave term,” Powell said, referring to former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin using the term to describe Obama’s response to the attacks in Libya.

Powell also pointed to former New Hampshire Gov. John Sununu, who was an aggressive surrogate for Mitt Romney, for calling Obama “lazy” after the first debate during the campaign.

For the record… New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and White House Press Secretary Jay Carney have both used the term LINK “shuck and jive” but were given a pass by the liberal media.

More… Barack Obama thinks he’s lazy too. LINK

Perhaps the hand that fed him is attached to a body that went rabid?

Colin isn't the only republican that's jumping ship and making sensible noises, actions that the far right sees only as treason to the party.

The party has turned into an insane asylum where it's lost all republican values.

Reagan fully supported the Brady act, Nixon started the EPA.

Quote:Definition

Shuckin' and jivin' (or shucking and jiving) is a slang term for the behavior of joking and acting evasively. More generally, the term can also refer to the speech and behavioral mechanisms adopted in the presence of an authoritative figure.[1] Shuckin' and jivin' usually involves clever lies and impromptu storytelling, used to one-up an opponent or avoid punishment. The term is also used in the Southern United States referring to deceit or mischief involving lies

Well.... by definition, I'd have to say, that's about what Obama is doing. In fact he's run two presidential campaigns in that manner, and runs his office in that manner on a routine basis. Shall we discuss Fast & Furious, Benghazigate, Gun Control, the budget, Fiscal Cliff, Debt Ceiling, kickbacks to renewable energy companies, etc. etc. etc.???

Quote:Origin

According to linguist Barbara Ann Kipfer, the origins of the phrase may be traced to when "black slaves sang and shouted gleefully during corn-shucking season, and this behavior, along with lying and teasing, became a part of the protective and evasive behavior normally adopted toward white people".[2]

According to the 1994 book by Clarence Major, ‘Juba to Jive, a Dictionary of African-American Slang,’ ‘shuck and jive’ dates back to the 1870s and was an ‘originally southern ‘Negro’ expression for clowning, lying, pretense.[3]

Yep... that would be exactly what they are doing! Good call Sara!! Can't say that I see any part of what she said to be in error.

Quote:Modern Usage

The use of the phrase in modern American politics has generated controversy at times. In 2008, then New York attorney general Andrew Cuomo said of then Democratic Party candidate Barack Obama (who was running against Hillary Clinton, the candidate Cuomo supported): "You can't shuck and jive at a press conference." Cuomo received criticism from some for his use of the phrase, with Roland Martin of CNN stating that "“Shucking and jiving” have long been words used as a negative assessment of African Americans, along the lines of a “foot shufflin’ Negro.”" [4]

Similarly, on October 25, 2012, former Republican Party Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin generated controversy when she stated "President Obama's shuck and jive shtick with these Benghazi lies must end".

It was only sort of not OK for Cuomo to use the phrase, but God forbid a Republican use, then it's absolutely racist of them. Even if Obama was in fact expressing protective and evasive behavior normally adopted toward white people. Kinda like Colin Powell is doing at the moment.
