Whats up with Sportsmans Warehouse

I went to Sportsman earlier today to get some cleaning solevant and there shelves were about bare. They didn't have the solvent I wanted so I asked what they recomended to remove lead and the guy really didn't know. During our conversation I ased him what was up with all the mechandise that was missing. He appoligized and said they weren't restocking the shelve for a while because the company was in the process of being sold to some Canadian group due to they were in finantial trouble. He said that they were probably going to close several of the stores.

I work there part time and what he told you is mostly true. Sportsmans has been having some serious cash flow problems. They got too big way too fast. I would estimate about 25 stores too many really. They have been sold to a Canadien Company and Stu Utgaard is no longer the CEO and primary shareholder. We will see what is on the horizon for Sportsmans Warehouse. I do hope they survive and the inventory situation improves.

Makes sense now /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif

I went to 2 different stores in CO. and the one in casper last week and there wasn't anything for reloading supplies etc.

Between that and everybody making post election purchases /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

Funny you guys say something about sportsmans. I went there today to get a few boxes of ammo for my 270 wsm. Of corse they were out of it along with most of the reloading stuff. I asked the guy what was going on and he told me all the warehouses were out and probally wont get nothing until summer. Even ammo. So i drove to gander mountain and they had lots of ammo lots of reloading bullets and brass but they were a lot higher in price. 7.00 a box higher on ammo and 9.00 higher on a box of bullets. But gander mountain price matches so they called sportsmans and got there price and thats what they sold them to me for. Ammo and bullets. So if you guys need something try gander if there is one close to ya and if the items are cheaper somewhere in town they will price match others price.

The local SWH here in Tucson almost never has what I need in stock as far as reloading supplies are concerned. Evidently what I want is exactly what everybody else wants too.

Otherwise the local store has more stock than I've seen in quite some time. Nice supplies of both scopes and guns. And like everywhere, they are selling. Pretty much, if you want it get it now. I was looking at several shotguns last wekk and this week they are long gone.

I think it is a combination of two things. Tight money and a run on re-loading supplies. I went to the Salem, Oregon store the day after the election at about 3:00pm. A number of guys were in there with shopping carts filling up on bullets, powder and primers. Brass seemed to be in supply. The same thing happended to the Portland store. However, I did notice that they restocked with primers and bullets about a week later and had a decent supply. Those did not last long. The shelves are now bare for the small rifle primers and the popular varmint/predator bullets. I picked up their last can of Benchmark. I did notice that there were a few boxes of Varmint Grenades in .224. Is there a lesson in that?

Wow... They just opened one in Billings this summer and the shelves are bare for reloading supplies here also..

I ya want a excellent bore cleaner order Boretech eleminator off the internet its the only thing i will clean my guns with anymore..

The new Visalia SW store that opened Nov 1st also has bare shelves in the reloading dept, except for LEAD bullets, as this is a Non-Lead Condor Zone area, so no Barnes to speak of along with zilch cases. At least our Mom & Pop store has plenty of Barnes and reloading supplies at the same price. Most of their supplies coming in, I was told by a clerk, were from stores that closed, like the one in Victorville CA.

The sad thing is that it has been that way for several years. They are out of most reloading components for very long periods of time. The one in Twin Falls had no 450 Mag CCI primers for almost a year. I moved to Colorado in October of 07 and the sportsmans here had 100 before I moved. The sportsmans in the Springs had none either. I had my brother checking at Sportsmans weekly for primers. I moved back almost 9 months later and they still had never recieved any. I bought some 400's off a friend here on PM and then in the 11th month they got 2000 of them in and I bought 1500 of them right away.

I love sportsmans but every time I go in there they are out of more and more stuff that I need.

It's been that way here in Utah. They blame it on their inventory ordering system - but yeah, for how many years is that excuse going to work?

I buy my stuff from a small shop and they ALWAYS have what I need, when I need it.
