What's your favorite trapping gun?

I started using my Marlin 17HMR with 20gr. Gamepoints. Worked great and helped dispatch a few non-trapped critters while on the checks. No hide damage ever and highly effective at taking the fight out of critters. Really nice for dispatching pole cats at a distance too

. Changed to my Ruger Single Six last time I went with CCI CB Shorts. Shot two coons twice each between the eyes. Wasn't pretty. If I get to go again, the HMR will go or the Single Six will get regular velocity 22LR's in it. Nothing like having a twice shot coon pizzed off at you and whipping your butt on a tight creek bank ledge

I've switched back and forth about 10 times now between the Ruger Bearcat Shopkeeper and the Ruger SR22. I've got to make up my mind this week! And yes I would like to just get both but it's not gonna happen! lol

Well even though that Bearcat has a whole lot more eye appeal I brought home the SR22 with threaded barrel. Easier for the kids to have fun with at the range was pretty much what made me end up with it over the bearcat. That is if ammo is ever available again!

Thanks for all the input!

My go-to trapline gun was a toss up between a Ruger Mark II 6" stainless pistol and a Marlin 99M1 rifle (precursor to the Marlin 60, with stock to look like an M1 Carbine).

I also REALLY like the Taurus Tracker .17HMR that I bought a few years ago, but it's a little messier than the .22lr.

Honestly, I'd love to be able to justify a Ruger SP-101 8shot .22lr, but they're pretty proud of them for just a trapline pistol.

Well I had to put the SR22 to use today as I hooked up my first coon. I've only put a handful of rounds through it so far and no complaints yet!

I have a heritage too, real cheap and surprisingly accurate. I did decide to get a ruger super 10 after this year, more capacity and stainless too.
