When a coyote knows what a snare is.

Hanging Snares along fence lines holes I catch Coyotes, Coons, Skunks, Badgers, Armadillos, Pig's, Bobcats, If I see where a Coyote is walking up to the hole and looking at the Snare then leaving and going to the next hole looking and leaving, I put a couple of foot hold traps about a foot or more from the hole, i usually get the smart old lookers. Yes sir I often due the same. On this type of crawl ill usually bed one right where they dug the trench
 
Shot this coyote at my bait site back in February. Had a broken snare around his neck. They are tough critters.
It was tight around his neck. I loosened it up for the photo.

Yes Sir they sure are. Thanks for sharing these pictures. I’m always amazed just how tough they are. Then again most animals have the will to live, it’s people who seem to wanna quit.
 
With prices down I haven't snared in a while but it always amazed me how resilient coyotes were. If the snare gets too far back it doesn't properly do the job and they will fight it forever. I bumped up my anchor wire size and even still had one or 2 chew out. There was some spots that were hard to set the snare from the thick bush and after the coyote was retrieved it was clear like a furry buzzsaw had gone through.

Yep that’s right. I only use 3/32 cable with cam locks. The 1/16 cable seems to get a lot tighter. Down side if it’s cooler weather it’s a greater risk of a chew out.

Is that the one you need a tool to compress it. I think there’s 2 sizes made by a feller in Canada if so i tried them but never connected on one. I set about 200 snares a month. Between pigs jack rabbits porcupines coons i end up going through lots of cable. Im gonna have to give those another try.

Yes sir mart seneker is the guy. Little pliers type deal to set the spring. They take a bit of fiddling to set as the weight of the spring makes them hang a bit different than a regular setup. I have Marty's contact info if you ever want to get ahold of him. He judges coyotes at our local contest

Awesome thank you. I thought so it’s been a few years since I used them. I went from them to using a few different type of kill springs. Kinda same result, where I used them I never connected. Thanks again.
