when will powder return to the store shelves

I was in the Bentonville, AR Cabelas just the other day. They had a fair amount of smokeless powder. They had a bunch of IMR 4064, some 4350, and other odds & ends. I do remember some Titegroup handgun powder.

I wasn't looking so I didn't pay attention to all they had, never checked on primers either. I did buy a bag of 243 brass and the latest Hodgdon reloading annual.

There is powder out there, you just have to be willing to travel to find it. I have not seen some of the more popular choices like TAC, Winchester 748 and such available though.

Our local Scheels seems to have had a streaky supply. First,
I was low on Varget...They had 8 lb jugs. Then I was low
on Reloader 10x, bought 2 lbs of that. Then I found a load
using Reloader 7, for the 6.8 SPC, they had two lbs of that.
Then I ran low on H-4895, loading for the 204 Ruger, and
the 6mm WOA, and they had a lb of that. My big supplier
has been out, but the local Scheels has been coming through.
They charge a $1-$2 more than the big supplier, but they
have had it. I also picker up a 1000 Rem 7.5 primers last
week, at Scheels, too. I think the supplies will improve
slowly, as the panic demand fades.

Try not to do that...you'll have to start the hunt all over again!

I hope so! But I'm not holding my breath. I was talking to a clerk at my local store on Wednesday, which is the day they receive their shipments, and he was telling me there was a line of over 400 people outside waiting for the store to open that day.

The problem is the the panic buying feeds on itself. I shoot a LOT of .22lr ammo in the spring/summer, probably 1000+ rounds/month. I'm VERY low on that right now so if I see it I will buy as much as I can because it seems to be impossible to find. However, everyone has this mindset now so it's just a self-fulfilling prophecy that there is an ammo shortage. I have no problem with people stocking up if they plan to shoot it soon. What I have a problem with is the people that buy 20-30,000 rounds so they can just stick it in their closet "just in case".

It is called being prepared. I have no problem with stockpiling.
I do have a problem with gouging. But by stockpiling I can
tell gougers to sit on it and spin.

Only 20k-30k, some might still consider that an ammo shortage.

I'm sitting on a small pile. As things come in, I buy a little of this or that to replace what I have used. Kinda like the old timers and the "cellar". It makes sense to have some storage.

To be responsible, you should have stored food, water, batteries, first aid etc... If you are a gun owner, you should have a supply, just saying.

That rifle or pistol is one expensive beating stick with no ammo.

Plan ahead always, and try to see farther than the end of your nose.

Amen on all accounts. We're working on the food end of it here shortly.

BTW... While some may [beeep] now about someone who has 20/30k rounds rat holed away, They may come to appreciate that guy at some point in the future when he shares that ammo with you against a common aggressor.

Not everyone wants a freaking armory of ammo and powder in their house. Personally, I think its assainine that anyone has 30k of ammo in thier house. And even more assanine to broadcast it on the internet. Appreciate the guy? He just put a huge bullseye on himself if god forbid we ever went that route. Dudes like that are usually the first ones shot because they couldnt keep their mouth shut.

The hoarders and preppers have really taken a gigantic crap on the shooting sports. More or less turned it into a dog eat dog environment, so the non doomsday prepper that enjoys shooting has to scavenge like an animal just to get some rounds down range.

I have managed to get a small "stockpile" of supplies so I can continue to hunt and shoot, but I absolutely refuse to play this hoarders game.

So thats what were down to now, calling each other out because folks set back supplies for the future? I got a news flash for you, its not just "hoarders and preppers" that are clearing off the store shelves, theres hundreds of thousands of new gun buyers out there in the effort of trying to find supplies too.

From the sounds of your post, your more angry about this than you admit.

swift one...Here again, I'm not trying to start an argument,, but based on your comment, I offer just a different perspective..
Quote:I think its assainine that anyone has 30k of ammo in thier house...If, in the event that our economy should substantially collapse to the point that banks temporarily shut down, or the government failed to meet their established financial obligations, and funds due could not be obtained through normal channels...Many of us that are living on pensions and social security would have a hard time getting by for the basic necessities...

Most of the economic forecasts by those much smarter than I am, are predicting that if our government keeps printing money without a substantial degree of economic improvement, we will experience what is called "Hyper Inflation"...I lived through a little of that back in the mid '70s during the term of President Carter when mortgage interest rates were in the upper teens and only those with funds to invest in Money Market accounts were making any money, as they were paying 15-16% on the dollar every seven days...

In the event of economic failure, only those with something substantial to barter are going to stay reasonably solvent...Do you think that I wouldn't trade 200 rounds of ammunition for a months supply of basic food needs, since with my health issues, it is unlikely that I would be able to hunt effectively to feed my wife and myself and work that I could do would be extremely limited..??? My alternative is to curl up and die...That's not in my nature...

You even admit to stockpiling but whine because someone else does on a larger scale??? What is the magic number of rounds that is ok with you???
