where is the best deal for bulk 17hmr ammo?

after I run a couple different types through my gun I am going to buy about 1000 rounds of ammo for it. It seems to be liking the hornady vmax's that I started with.

Best price I have found is from cabelas at about 28 cents a round. Id like to get down to about 20 cents if possible.

I know there are some HMR guys on here, and im guessing you buy in bulk so where do you get yours?
 
I would honestly just keep your eyes peeled in the forums here. A lot of guys will from time to time have a few hundred rounds for sale cheap. Cabelas has the .17gr Hornady on sale right now for 10.99 a box/ .22 a round.
 
Midsouthshooterssupply.com They have some for as low as $9.99 plus shipping. I am not sure 20 cents a round is going to happen, but I could be wrong.

I just bought it from Midsouth at $9.99. Not in bulk as this was the first rounds I've fired in the gun. I bought a couple of hundred to try out. I should have bought bulk. The Hornady 17gr. Vmax is the real deal and if I can get out when the wind is blowing it will definitely kill pds out to 100yds. or more.
 
I think our best to date has been around 300 on prairie dogs. Neat little round. We recover probably 2 out of 3 with HMR vs 1/10 for .22. Generally with the hummer the only way you don't find them is if their hole is vertical and they slide from sight.

I've done 220 with .22LR using velociter ammo. Punched through the ribs and he ran all out about 40 yards before falling over.
 
I have tried all of the HMR ammo and all of my rifles seem to prefer the Hornady the best.
I read somewhere that all HMR ammo is loaded by CCI no matter what the box says and the only difference is the powder and brass.

I try to buy it in bulk when possible to keep the cost down. There is a guy that sets up at gunshows and we can get Hornady for $10.00 a box in case form.
The average price on the shelves in my area is $12.99 to $14.99 per box of 50.

If you check Midway Arms about once a month, they will sometimes run specials on their rimfire ammo, or sign up for their "E-Blast", which is specialty sales....

I used go get notified of Eley .17M2 ammo at $4.95 per 50 instead of the normal price of $14.95... Needless to say, I would order plenty for the next year...as it was more accurate for me than CCI or Hornady..
