I didn't get to even see an elk...no deer tag, and I have been looking at pics of some of the hogs taken....So is there a good place to go thats not 2 days drive from Western Colorado?

There's a place in Corinne, Utah, also. Check out the thread in the Member's Club House started by RanUtah. Him and some other guys killed some whopper hogs! I think the cost was right around $350.00.

These guys are getting you lined out. I was gonna say California, but the cost is probably greater than what these guys have pointed out, especially with the price of gas nowadays. There are some good places in Oklahoma and the panhandle of Texas that may not be too far away from you. I go down by Kerrvilee, which is 500 miles from me. That's a thousand from you, one way.

BloodHound,

You'll find some real nice pigs here in Kalifornia but the real good one's are on private land and will have $500 minimum price tag on them. Not to mention a trophy for any tusk that is bigger than 1.5".

Texas should be cheaper both on gas and tag fee.

Should you decide to come out west look into Montery County and any where around San Louis Opispo!

Blood Hound...

My father and I went to Texas a couple of years ago. It was fun. We are going again this spring. For hogs, Texas seems to be a good bet. We will leave Rifle on friday night, and aim for Colo Springs by night fall. Saturday we will make it most of the way to the Ranch. Sunday we will get into the small town in the mid afternoon and wait until monday to get on the ranch and hunt. It takes us 3 days to get there, but my dad has back problems and needs lots of stops to keep his back feeling well. I do believe that we could make it to the ranch on sunday, but we have the time and do not need to push it. I gues in short, the best time we could make if we switched drivers, drove til late etc. Would be to leave Rifle on Friday afternoon, and arrive early sunday moring. Do some searching around. The hunt we are going on is a 3 day/night hunt. It is going to cost us $375 perperson plus tip that includes meals and lodging while there. I am sure that the accomidations are not real fancy as we were looking for a place to sleep and shower. You might also look into new Mexico, they are closer, but do not allow the fun stuff, like hunting at night etc.

By the way, wish you were up my way this season. I hunted the last 2 weekends looking for a good buck. Until sunday the only thing I saw withh good antlers were bull. Infact this weekend I saw bulls in 3 different areas. 2 of which were well over 300inches. I ended up shooting a 3X3 that was 22 inches wide on sunday. Nothing like waiting til the last minute....

The place is B-Hunting, web site b-hunting.com. The guys name is Bob Kight. His email address is: kight@awesomenet.net His ranch is just North of Uvalde, TX. We stumbled across him on ebay. He has very good customer rating on ebay. Also he has both high and low fenced areas, feeders, etc. It looks to be about the best deal we could come up with. We are heading down over my Spring Break, leaving Friday March 17th and arriving on the Ranch Monday the 20th hunting until noon on the 23rd. We were hoping to hit the full moon this trip, as we hit the new moon last time. Made things hard to see.

We looked around, we wanted unlimited hogs, no trophy or kill fees. There are a bunch of places out there that charge you per pound, or a kill fee for hogs over a certain weight etc. A big hog can get real exspensive. We are going more for meat then trophy. Last place I hunted with was the Vernando Grande Ranch near Del Rio. It was ok, just want to try something different. You might look them up as well, they do a 2 day unlimited hog hunt for $450/person. Not a bad deal, just B-hunting seemed better. I got several small piglets on that trip. They tasted yummy. Infact I took out 4 with one shot(ranch record). My dad and I are looking at recruitibng others to help split gas/hotel cost. At this time we are waiting for some freinds to give us an answer. If they do not we might invite others..... Hint Hint.
If you have anyother ?'s let me know.

elks, thanks for the "hint"

When we go down there is always four of us so it might be a bit crowded.

Previously we hunted 2CK ranch in Matador and 7Bar in Dickens.

We felt we didn't giet our moneys worth at 2CK. Got our moneys worth at 7Bar, but would like to try something new next time.

Thanks for the leads, I'm going to look into them.

We also have a standing invite from a family memmber in OK but it's a long drive!
