Where to go for Varmints near Las Vegas?

Hey Everybody,

I live in Las Vegas and would like to expand my choices for varmint hunting beyond Jack Rabbits. Does anybody know any good places to go within a 2-3 hours driving time from here for P-dogs or Rock Chucks, anything? I'm a little new to these boards and am not sure if it's taboo to ask about your secret hunting spots, but I would sure love to find some more opportunities close by. If you don't want to post your ideas you can email me at drmdado@gmail.com. I would sure appreciate any help I can get. Thanks in advance.

?????RockChucks, and PD's???? In Nevada, that's gonna be tuff! There is a reason they are called Prairie Dogs. We just do not have much in the line of Prairies', But welcome to the boards anyhow....JOHN

I've heard there are some if you go into Arizona or Utah. Just don't know where. I know PDs are protected in Southern UT, but don't know if it's everywhere or what.

There aren't any varmints (coyotes, pd's, rockchucks, etc ) in Utah. I've driven miles and miles and haven't even seen a rabbit in the 32 years I've lived here...
All joking aside... I would recommend taking a few saturdays and driving around, that's how I've found my little honeyholes. Just get out and hunt.

We went on a ground squirrel trip last weekend up to Eureka, NV and had fantastic luck. It's about a 4 hour drive from Vegas, but the farmers up there absolutely love us coming to shoot their fields. We had about 12 fields we could shoot and each was about 1000 yrds x 1000 yrds. We actually ended up just on one field for the entire trip and never ran out of targets. I shot about 400 rounds of .17 hmr, 100 rounds of .204, and close to 500 rounds of .22. The great part is that even after 9 of us shot like that, we didn't even dent the population. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

In short, you've gotta head up north a bit to shoot the little guys.
