which caliber and bullet combo for best acrobatics on p-dogs?

between the .204 ruger and 32g bullets, .22-250 and 40g bullets, and a .243 with a 55 nbt 58g v-max bullet which would give the biggest wow factor with p-dogs or even the one size smaller gophers? these are the smallest and fastest bullets per caliber. all bullets being a hornady v-maxes? just would like to know the outcome if anyone has experience with these calibers and bullet combos?
 
I've successfully launched PD's with 32 gr VMAX in .204. I also like a 40 gr Berger MHP which gives nothing away and seems to do better for me in heavier winds. I want to be able to see hits/misses and have not consistently done so w/.243..never owned a .22-250.
 
I more recoil and lighter the gun the less you will see thru the scope. i.e. a stout 22 centerfire will allow you to see hits more often than a similar weight 243. That said the 243 in a stout gun will probably do more visible damage since it is carrying a heavier bullet yet pretty close to 22-250 speed. Shooting from bags will also help with sight picture as gun recoils rearward and doesn't affect sight picture as much as when kneeing, free hand, off sticks
 
I use two .204s with 39gr Sierra BlitzKing bullets and have had some impressive results...I use the 39s just because neither of my barrels like the lighter bullets and they have a higher accuracy factor..

I've also had excellent results out of .223s with the 40gr V-Max rounds, but the .204s don't recoil much when compared to the .223s, and the .223 is pretty insignificant in the recoil department..

Usually, I'm shooting from a portable bench that has a swivel capable front cradle that holds the firearm, and allows a pretty decent range of pivot...

My .223 and a 50g vmax @ 3300fps sends them flying and the same with my 6x45 using a 65gr vmax @ 3060 fps.
The clip below is with the 65g vmax & 6x45.

Ok here's my sperience wth flyin gophers and p-dawgs..

204, 32 vmax, 39 Sierra, and my fave 40 Berger Varmint.

222 REM, 40 Nosler BT.

223 REM, 50 V-Max..

For added aerobatics ya gotta hit em low.. Hydraulics then takes over..
 
.17 Fireball with 25 VMAX at 3750... VERY impressive areobatics and bodily explosions... and the best part, you get to see it all in the scope...

The best one I've seen in person was with a 22-284, don't remember the bullet, but either a vmax or nbt. I was watching thru binos, the pdog was about 100 yards away, and the explosion was so violent I flinched, thinking I was gonna get splattered with goo.

The best I've seen in a home video was with a 300 RUM Improved shooting a 110 vmax. Wow. Nothing like slo-mo video of a pdog coming apart!

For the more practical, a 243 with light bullets or 25-06 is hard to beat for air time. I shoot a lot of dogs with a 204, and it doesn't compare IMO to the larger calibers for air time/explosiveness.
 
I use a 223 with 40 VMax traveling at 3750.

If you hit the bottom half they get flying lessons.

Sometimes in several directions.

The larger caliber bullets will usually get you more "pop" as in flying parts. Some of the best flying antics I have seen have been with 55gr vmax in 220 swift and 32gr bk in 204. The 22-250 isn't bad either. One the other day with my .204 had a "frenched rack of lamb" look going on.

Like zilla said, hit them low in the belly to get the most lift.
 
223 55gn nbt but the key is to wait till 2 or 3 get on the mound. and line up. hit the first and watch the last fly!!!
