Which call?

Ok here goes, I'm a newbie just wanting to get started into coyote calling and such and am wondering what call or maybe what couple of calls to get to get started. Not really talking about brand or particular maker, but which "voice" should I be looking at for starters. I don't really have someone that I know that I could get to be a mentor, so I'm probably going to have to "live and learn" and hope that I don't just educate the dogs around here. I bought the Primos/Randy Anderson Mastering the Art Predator Pak that has the DVD and the "Lil' Dog with two mouthpieces, green for close-in and white for long range. As with most things I'm sure he makes it look a lot easier than it is. I have read a lot of things that you guys have posted here and know that there is a ton of experience out there, so thanks in advance for any input that you guys are willing to share.

In my opinion, you should buy you a few calls from some of the custom call makers right here on this forum. The calls they make are easy to blow and will hold up for long and hard use. Rich Cronk, Rick Robbins, Kerry Carver are three that come to mind, and there are others. These guys voice their calls to be realistic and they end up being cheaper because you aren't throwing away your money on junk.

+1 I have a Rich Cronk Howler and it is realistic and lots of volume. Rick Robbins also makes a nice howler. Fox Pro also has a few good mouth calls that I like.

IMO those randy Anderson calls do just fine and are the ones I use(along with the FoxPro firestorm). With the lil dog pack you bought you can do a wide range of coyote vocalizations as well as rabbit distress, pup distress, kiyi's, bird sounds and even fawn distress. just keep practicing and you'll get the hang of it.

keep in mind that everybody "sounds" different when they call (rhythm, cadence, flutters etc...). there's a difference in the way Les Johnson sounds compared to Randy Anderson's sound. heck there's even a difference between my calling "sound" and my twin brothers

just my 2 cents
