Which choke for #4 buck.

My son and i have had good success using Buckkicker ckokes designed for buckshot. He put one in a MB 535 and mine a MB835 ultimag. Goodluck

BUCKKICKER CHOKES
 
Save yourself the heartache of a bad shot, and pattern your gun. I read and read about another load using an 870 and "turkey extra full" choke. I planned to use my 870 so I put that choke in it and bought a box of "those" loads I'd read about. That combo in my gun produced a "halo" pattern, with very few pellets in the center, and the largest concentraion outside of 8" (I think it was 8"). I shot at a yote under 15 yds and didn't see any hair flying as he left. That was a head shot, quartering away. A couple of stands later, I drew blood on a bobcat that should've been DRT. After hours of looking for it, I finally gave up. After patterning my gun with that load I determined I probably grazed it's belly and missed everything else. #4 buck through the same choke was what my gun liked the best.

Good point 1S1K! I know a guy that bought a new shotgun, a choke tube recommended by a friend and his old reliable turkey load. He was advised by plenty of people to pattern the gun. He thought everybody was nuts. No way was he going to waste his time and loads shooting at a patterning board. He missed several turkeys before he decided to pattern his gun, choke and ammo combination. His gun did shoot a fair pattern, but it was way off to the left from point of aim. He didn't kill a turkey that year all because he was too stubborn to pattern his gun.
 
Well, I got a full choke from HS Strut and it works pretty well. Will put 9 pellets in a 6 inch circle at about 45 yds. The Inside Diam. is .675. I took it out yesterday, and got a bobcat with it about 35-40 yds away. Facing me first shot...dropped hard, got up and put another shot in him and he did not move. Dug out 10 pellets from him, with multiple pass throughs. The first shot would have done it, but didn't want to have to track him. I will get pics and a story on later...thanks for all your help.
 
Just for grins I went back and dug up the results from my pattern test. Sounds like the choke you ended up with suits your gun real well!

The testing is complete. I fired one round at 30 yards with the (Brand X) load through the same choke with a cold barrel. The results were actually a lot similar to the halo mentioned. I had 20 pellets inside 10.5", but only 3 of those were inside 5.5", one being just about .25" low and .5" right of dead center. The majority of the shot was high, or low and outside the 7" ring.
I then used the #4 buck with the same Turkey Extra Full Choke, Full Choke, and Modified and just out of curiosity my slug barrel. The best results were the T E Full with 23 pellets inside 10.5" and 6 pellets inside 5.5". This round had a tighter pattern as well.
Then full choke wasn't far behind with 17 inside 10.5 and the same 6 inside 5.5. The really interesting thing on the #4's was that both Full and T E Full put one pellet within about 1/8" of dead center.
