Which do you prefer - walnut or corn cob media?

I've only used corn cob media. I was thinking about trying walnut. Which do you prefer and why?

Also, I read where someone on here used walnut bedding that they sell at pet stores for lizards. Anyone else use it? Work as well?

Walnut for me as its washable when it finally gets to dirty to clean.
Petsmart sells the fine grit walnut that many reloaders use also.

Walnut for grubby cases, then size then Corncob to shine
them up.
Corncob does leave less dust in the cases and cleans the primer pockets better.

How do you guys clean the walnut media ?

Walnut for me.

Don't put polish in it and it wont plug your primer pockets

IMHO.

I have been using walnut for decades and have never had a case with walnut media stuck in primer pocket OR Flash hole

The walnut media I use is Lyman and has the polish allready in it (red in color) and boy sometimes that stuff lodges in the primer pocket holes so tightly it leaves me wondering how the heck?!?
I agree w/Hylander though in that it does work good for a pre clean on some of the dirty ol` range brass I get.
Curious too about how you clean walnut media? Swish around in a bucket of hot soapy water then rinse?

I just bought some walnut from Petsmart. It's in the bird section. It was $11 for a 7lb bag. They had corncob too, but it was bigger pieces than the media that I have. I'm going to give it a shot. I think I'll use the walnut for the first cleaning, then the corn cob that I already have to clean the wax off and polish the cases.

I'd like to know how to clean the walnut too. I've seen people say walnut is dusty, but if you can wash it, I bet you could get rid of a lot of the dust.

I used walnut when I vibratory tumbled, I prefer stainless :0).

Seriously, walnut worked well, did get dusty, and did stick in my primer pockets.

I use to use corn but now walnut it does a better job in half the time and is cheaper and eaiser to find at pet food places.
Primer holes seem to me plug up a little less with walnut.

Same here. Except I use Lyman's cleaner. Best way to go with that walnut media.

I just purchased the Lizard Media that was brought up. Tried it today for the first time. I put a little turtle wax into it, and the results were pretty good. No cloggegd primer holes in the .243 cases I polished. Thanks for the info!

Throw an old used dryer sheet in the tumbler and replace it with every batch of tumbled brass and that seriously reduces the dust. The dust sticks to the dryer sheet and goes into the trash and not on your clean cases.

I also use a squirt of NuFinish car polish in with my walnut media and I tumble my cases first, wipe them down and inspect them and then resize/deprime so stuck media has never been an issue for me at all.
