need a hand held gps unit, hunting a new area, went out scouting today got a good 1.5 mile from the road, took longer to get back than it should, hand to stop and think too many times, being 100 degrees didnt help, but did find a lot of hog and deer sign even seen a doe and twin fawns, dont need anything fancy, just receive good and keep me headed to the truck:)

Any one from Garmin & get it with the SD slot and you are good to go.
A $10 compass will do the same trick w/no batteries & get you there & back everytime.

I've been playing with my Garmin Oregon 450 and so far I really like it. Of course, for just backtracking to your truck, you could probably pick up a little cheapy (used) eTrex for well under $100.

Backtrack on my Magellan Meridian Marine works great but I rarely use it.Most often I try to hunt my way out so the wind dictates my route.

I've used the older one (with 3 waypoints) a little. If all you want it to do is find your way back to camp/ your truck, it's just fine.

They now have one out that has 5 waypoints if you need that, it costs a little more.

I use my old Garmin, the Backtrack is for my son. I'd get in trouble if I lost him.

It all depends on your needs. Whatever you get, look around on e Internet for the best deal. I bought a garmin Oregon on amazon last year for 150 less than bass pro wanted.

I have two Etrex and a backtrack I can part with for a pretty low prices.

Warpig....

I have been looking at the Hunting GPS Maps chip for FL and I if I decide to get one I plan to buy the Oregon 450 to run it on.

How do you like the program? I night hunt various farms and parcels and it's easy to get over property lines sometimes. I also have to plan my sets so that my shots don't cross any property lines either. I am thinking the chip with the properly plats might do the trick.

I would appreciate any feedback.

Sorry for the late reply. I really like it, especially for what you are describing. Iowa is scattered with private property and the map is great for staying on the public side of things. They dont have a map for Iowa with the plats(id imagine it would take years to complete given the amount of privat land here) but it does hilight in purple the public land so I know to just stay in the purple. Im sure the plat version would be similar. I have no real complaints with it.
