Which gun should I get (Cz 527 or remington)

NCVARMINT

I am going to sell my savage 12vlp in 204 ruger soon. And am going to purchase either a Cz 527 varmint kevlar or the laminated stock, or a remington vls or remington xr-100 in 204 caliber. I had a remington 700 vs built to a 20-221 fireball improved, and love the remington actions, but have also had a cz 527 varmint kevlar in 223 and loved the way it felt. So i am having a tough time choosing. If you have one of these guns, tell me what you think

I have a couple of cz's and a few remingtons.
My xr-100 is a 22-250 and i can attest remington has turned things around. Some guns -several years ago were less that perfect. The wood to metal finish is impeccable ,and it is very accurate.
The xr-100 is great gun -imo- and a very good deal,at $725ish i feel it's worth every penny.
Of coarse i love the cz's but the old american made remington is the stuff!Mike

CZ detachable mag, set trigger, action sized to the cartridge, controlled round feeding, integral scope bases, excellent accuracy out of the box all for less than $600.00

I really like CZ. I do not know about recent remingtons, but my 40-XB had milling marks under the rear receiver bridge where the sear is. For whatever it was I paid for that rifle, I surely expected better than that.

Stubb

NCvarmint, I bought a remington sps in .223 this winter. After finding the right hand load for it, I get about 1 1/4" groups at 200 yards with it. At the same time a friend of mine bought a CZ carbine in .223 and it shoots just as good, but the action on the CZ is really tight. This will work lose with time though. I chose the rem because everything on it is dull matt black finish compaired to the semi gloss on the CZ. Just my .02 for ya to spend.

My kevlar varmint is matte black finish, Its also the most accurate rifle I have ever shot, HS stock, aluminum bedding block, owner adjustable set trigger, heavy 24" barrel, that still weights around 7.5#'s and is almost as short as a long action with a 22" barrel on a standard rifle, What more do you want??? open the box and shoot!!!

Hard to beat that CZ 527 Varmint with the Kevlar stock that Steve Garrett is refering to. Its alot of gun for the money and out of the box accuracy is on par with anything out there today for a factory gun. I talked to the CZ rep a week ago and he told me that the Kevlar stock 527 is going to be chambered in .17 Remington here very soon. I will be grabbing up one of those babies in a heart beat. Right now the only 527 you can get in a .17 Remington has the Walnut stock. The Kevlar 527 is currently chambered in .204 which I believe is what you said you were looking for. I do like my Remingtons but the CZ, especially the Kevlar 527 is a better rifle than the Remington in my opinion. Can you tell my vote goes to the CZ.

Flip a coin.

Either is/will be PLENTY accurate, rugged, and do all that you ask it to.

The end decision will probably come down to which one "trips your trigger" on aesthetics and which one feels better to you in the hand.

Either way, you won't go wrong.

Remington ALL THE WAY!!!! Especially now that remingotn is importing the mini mauser and sellin it as the 799 (for right around 475 bucks ta boot). Pretty much the same as the CZ, if your into that.

No it ain't.

The fit and finish on the 799 feels like it was done to about 60 grit level. Not great. A solid action, yes, and one that can be improved on and built on, yes, but not comparable to a decently finished, proven accurate production rifle.

The CZ, while it isn't the most polished out there (what is, anymore?), is FAR and away better finished than the 798.

The 799 is exactly the same as the Charles Daly from last year; same actions, same steel, same plant, same producer, just a different importer (Remington now vs. CD then).

The CZ is head and shoulders above the 799/Charles Daly.

Yes the Kevlar varmint is alot nicer the the remingtons. The only reason I didn't mention it is that the sps runs about $450.00 plus tax compaired to the $700.00+ for the Kevlar cz and it shoots just as well.

you should be able to get the CZ kevlar for about $639 or less, sometimes if you are patient you can find one used, I got lucky about 2 years ago I bought mine off auction arms, for $450 it came with CZ rings and a mounted scope. sold the scope for $70, I now have the less than $400 bills in the gun,

The 798 & 799 are two completely different rifles. I would not expect Remington to cannibalize the 700 line with a full boat tricked out square bridge 98 actioned rifle.
The 799, WHICH IS THE MODEL I RECOMMENDED is a good rifle. Whether it says Interarms, Charles Daily or Remington means little, It is still on par with the CZ 527, WHICH IS THE MODEL INQUIRED ABOUT.

BTW- DId I mention to go with the remington?

I prefer the Remington. I like the CZ's but the most accurate guns out of the box have been my Remingtons and they have "three rings of steel!" /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
