Greetings,

Well me'ol bow broke on me last year. All of a sudden my folks are willing to buy me a brandnew bow for my b-day, coming in a week! I have $400(no more!) for the bare bow itself. My priorities are 1. that the bow be forgiving and 2. then of course speed!! It must be availible left handed!

What do you reccomend?. I'm eyeing a martin bengal, but am totally open.

Thanks,
Tres

If was in the market for a new bow it would be a Mathews, because they make the best. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

It'd have to be a PSE Coyote recurve of course! No hand shock/vibration anywhere. Completely quiet. Nice speed. Plus, you'll be able to hunt in areas where compounds, or even rifles for that matter, are not allowed.

Well if it is a compound it would have to be a Bowtech. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I like Bowtech's as much as a fat kid likes cake! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The only problem I see that you may run into is that if a bow is fast it is less forgiving. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif

You cant have your cake and eat it to. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Anyway you go don't buy new. Bows are horrible investments, depreciate quickly, and improve very little from year to year. You will notice on eBay that the bow from two years ago is worth about half of what it was new and is relatively similar to the newest model.

Go to a bow shop, or shoot a friend's and decide which you like and what fits best. Then shop eBay or predator masters classifieds section for the bow you want. I can promise you that you can find a top of the line bow in your price range.

Last year I bought a two year old Matthews Outback. I believe it to be one of their best bows even compared to the newer ones. It ran about $450 with throphy ridge sights, whisker bisquit rest (which I removed) and 1/2 dozen arrows. It may not be new but it is a very good bow at half the price.

You need to check out Bear's new compounds they came out with last year. The Instinct and the lower model offer great performance for the money. I've set them up and sold them to tons of people. The Instinct runs $399 and the other model is $299, if it were me I would grab up that Instinct. The camo is hardwoods green and has modules that you can change out if you grow or you sell it. Definitely go check those out. I think it is the best bow for the money hands down even though I shoot a Bowtech Allegiance.
P.S. If you get one, change out the strings and cables next year, but they are fine for now. Joel

the best bow you can buy is one that fits you and
you a comfortable shooting. Mathews,PSE,bowtech,hoyt
it dont matter if it dont fit your shooting will suck.

Buy what fits and feels the best. If you want to buy a new bow. They are not an investment they are a tool. Use them and take care of thm. They will last several years. I boutght a new one last year and do not regret itall as I will not sell it until the technology has made totally obsolete. Get the right bow, shoot em all and find the one that fits and feels right.

The comment about a bow being a poor investment was to point out the fact that last years bow (while nearly identical) for any given manufacturer is worth 30% +/- less than this years. With the $400 buget he mentioned he can get a new bow from this years line, probably lower end and with no accessories, or he can purchase a two year old fully loaded top of the line bow.

Just an example of getting the most bang for your buck.

I agree on getting a good used bow. The technology I see the companies raving about is just about a new camo pattern and a couple other minor differences from their previous model. Getting a good 1-2 year old bow with all the accessories shouldn't be to hard if you watch ebay and your local newspaper ads. Good luck!
