which primers for an AR ?

are you guys using standard or magnum primers in your loads for your AR ? I have H335, AR Comp, CFE223, 3031 and varget powders. I have read that H335 works better with a magnum primer but what about the other powders I have ? I load 223 loads to shoot in my 5.56 chambered AR. I load mainly 55 gr bullets with a few 68 gr for longer range.

For a long time I used Small Rifle Primers. Bought some mags because of the slamfire thing while single loading. You know, thicker cups. Now I only buy Small Rifle Mag Primers. I use them in everything. Cuts down on the different kinds of stuff in storage.

I use magnum primers for everything and use CCI. Why? Because they are locally available and having a magnum is never a bad thing in my opinion. Plus it cuts down on the confusion at the load bench and I can buy in bulk easier. I use CCI 250, 350, 450, 550 for all my rifles and pistols regardless of powder used. Like anything, I always work up my loads. I even used them in my Blue Dot 223rem loads

I only use #41 CCI primers. If they are good for Silver State Ammo and Lake City. They are good for me.

5,56mm, 6,8mm and I load Palma brass in my LR-308 all #41 CCI. I just bought a LR-243. So, I will neck down my 308 Palma brass. So, I can use #41 primers.

I have used CCI and Wolf small rifle primers with Varget and X-Terminator in 223 and have never had a problem. I also use the same primers for 300 Fireball, 6.8 and 450 Bushmaster.

I guess I did good then, I picked up 1000 at a gun show of CCI450 for 35.00 The only bad side is I have to work up mloads again. I am not loading 5.56 loads but only 223 and not maximum loads.

rebs,,,Unless you are habitually having a hard time with powder availability, you should try to select and stay with one or two powders and hold the rest in reserve during 'emergency' times that tend to crop up..

For my .223s, whether bolt or AR, I use either TAC or W-748 and work up all my loads out of them...Saves on a bunch of components and allows me to buy in bulk when possible...My .204s function on W-748 or X-Terminator...

Like others,, I tend to stick with one type (not brand) of primer across the board, even though I have quite a variety that has accumulated over the years...

Just what DDW said. Best there is for my stuff.

For my AR I use CCI 450 primers. But one thing I do and anally and that is uniform the primer pockets on EVERY piece of brass I use for my AR. I had a problem with some Winchester brass having PP's that were not deep enough.

Other than that I use what the manual says STD or mag primers.

I use CCI 450s. I've never seen a slam fire in literally 100's of 1000's of AR fire. I think it's all a cooked up fictional myth. If the brass is properly sized, primer properly seated, and bullet at proper length, it doesn't happen.

I use IMR8208XBR in all of my ARs. (223 and 6x45). It meters like water, is temp stable, fills the case nicely, and give good speeds.

I know my cost for the match, lodging, meals and transportation totaled slightly over $1,000 and and he had slightly more invested...

Nothing but standard SRP in 40Ys of AR15 shooting/reloading.
I have never had a slam fire even w/federal stuff or have seen one happen myself.

Roger that!!
