Which rangefinder do you use ?

I put this in here because I didn't know where else to post it.

I'm looking at buying a rangefinder and want to know some ins/outs and brand recommendations. I do NOT need after-dark capability. My max shooting distance is a self-imposed 400 yards if that matters. Don't need anything with a lot of bells & whistles, just something accurate and dependable.

Thank you to everyone for the help as always!

Considering the criteria that you listed, just about anything should fit your needs. I would look at the Nikons.

Leupold rangefinders are very good for the price. Cabela's has the Leupold RX-1600i on sale for $299. That will easily do what you're asking. The RX-2800 is a lot better but has been out for a long time and is due for an update.

I've been using a Sig Kilo5k and I like it a lot. Small, well built. Lasers past 2000 yards easily anywhere. Onboard atmospherics, temp, Density Altitude, and uses Applied Ballistics to figure your actual real time ballistics out to 800 yards. Displays range, drop and wind holds in the viewfinder. (Use the app to configure past 800 yards). Configure 8 different rifles/cartridges.

I've had and used a few different RF's over the years and the Sig Kilo 2200 for the money has been a very solid little unit and I'm still using one.

Have a Leica 1000 which has been very reliable way beyond my 350 yd. self imposed limit.

My Sig has better capability than my older Leica 1200 Scan. However, Sig's warranty on rangefinders is 5 years and after that, you're SOL. Look at the warranties.

So one more option is a Vortex. I'm not typically a Vortex fan of most of their products but they have a VIP LIFETIME WARRANTY and to me that means a lot with electronics. They are the only manufacturer to my knowledge that does.

I agree that a small rangefinder for hunting/shooting, the Leica is the best optically and has a great laser but their warranty sucks. I've had one and also have a Vortex Razor 4000HD that is really really close optically to the Leica but the laser actually works better.

Shooting PRS matches exposes you to lots of different gear, I've played with most out and Leica, Sig, Vortex and Leupold are the most popular. The Sigs laser and electronics works pretty good but they all have a blueish tint that I despise, along with a crappy warranty. Leupolds glass is pretty nice but the laser is weak from my experience to the others. Their warranty is short also.

I'd go either Vortex or Leica.

I use a Bushnell and it works really well out to 800 yards. I haven't tried it further. I bought it a few years ago on sale and with a vet discount so it was fairly cheap. I've never seen a reason to upgrade

I don't range animals but sometimes range distances to places before I start a stand, setting up targets out on the desert and at 3D archery shoots. I've gotten along with an inexpensive Bushnell and last year I bought the Athlon on sale for under $100 so I could leave one in my archery gear and the one in the rifle gear. Both work fine.

Same here, no issues and still works great. It's all I need, as I'm really not too interested in targets beyond 500 yards anyway.
