Which scope and why, NcStar or Nikko Stirling ?

What one do you guys think is better a Nc Star Mark 3 30mm tube in 2.5x10 with the illuminated mildot or, a Nikko Stirling 1" tube with a 3x10x42 with a LRX reticle. I have never owned either and both of them intruige me.

I have never owned either, and neither intrigue me. Nikko, if you must. NC Star is complete crap in it's purest form, so I hear......
 
Son you might as well ask to crucify Christ cause around here if you aint shootin a Loopy you wasted youre money ! Just askem theyLL tell ya. I have NC star on a 223 and it has never let me down, I can see it and I can hit it, dead is still dead even with an economical scope.

If your going to keep it in that price bracket, I would recommend a Swift scope.

In fact, if you are wanting an NC star scope. I'll sell you mine for $20 you pay shipping. I used it one season and shelved it.

It is an NC Star 6x24 I think.
 
I am sorry if I offended anyone but its been on my mind lately after anther post and I have bit my tounge, its the samething on every board. Someone ask about an inexpensive scope and gets crap about their choice. 200.00 is not cheap to some people and maybe they did save their money just to buy the 85.00 bushnell, BSA or Tasco, NC Star or what ever. On another board I post there is one guy I dont care what kind of scope you ask about its the same thing everytime " junk, crap, save youre money buy a Loppy" the stupid SOB probaly doesnt even own one just likes making other people feel bad for not having anymore money then him. Do I own one yes but I also have several Tascos 2 Simmons a Redfeild 2 Bushnell and an NC Star. Bobtails buy the best scope you can afford and dont look back.

Stan, I agree with ya. There are PLENTY of less expensive glass out there that IMO the average joe wont see a difference between a leupy. And have suggested some in the past.

That being said, I did own a NC Star at one time and it had all the bells and whistles. But, It wouldn't hold zero for me /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif. If you have a good one, Hold onto it, I obviously got a bad one. My suggestion would be to literaly spend just a "little bit" more and buy a Bushnell Elite 3200. You can find them on line and on sale all over the place for less than $200.

But don't let anyone tell ya that if you don't have a Leupold,Schmidt&Bender,Night Force or USO your wasting your money. Those scopes all have there place and are all top quality But there is a lot of good glass out there for a lot less.

Having neither but I do follow alot of different sights and I haven't seen anyone pushing the quality of Nc Star scopes but Nikko Stirling has a pretty good following in Australia and a few that have posted about them have seemed satisfied.

Muellers and Swifts are popular in the low price range as are the Weaver Classics and Bushnell Ellites.

I have a Mueller APV 4.5x14 ($115.)on a .243 and a Weaver 2x10($149.)that gets moved around for load testing. Both of these have been good scopes.

Natchez has 2x7 Bushnell Elite 3200 w/Firefly for $119. should make a great calling scope. They also have Browning marked Bushnells for a real steal also.

If someone asks for an opinion and they get it, whats the big deal? Luepold isnt the only good scope out there but they are pretty fabulous, yes i own one. Lots of other choices other than the ones originaly asked about and there have been some good recomendations.

My good friend bought a NCstar and its about as useless as [beeep] on a boar. Cheap scopes wont hold zero, have crappy optics and poor light transmission. Why spend $500.00 or more on a rifle and then skip on a decent scope? For 100-200 there are better choices out there.
 
Nikko would be my choice Ive had good luck with them In Utah Gallensons in Salt Lake has the best prices I bought a 6-24x56 for $198

The nikko probably would probably hold up better.I have become a leupold convert latly and i have been let down by some cheap scopes and in the end they end up costing you more than what they are worth when they break, especially what rifle you put them on.
 
Like I said not trying to offend anyone but I think the point was made and you guys that responded probaly are not the ones it was aimed at. I just hate seeing guys get slammed for not being able to afford a 200.00 scope thats all
 
Not being able to afford a scope is one thing. There are some here who try to justify their purchases by saying that their cheaper scopes are just as good as better ones. When the reality is, if scopes were free, we all know which ones they would prefer.....

The Weaver Classic is THE best scope for the money, period, IMO.....
 
If scopes were free? I've been hunting for 50yrs, owner a gunshop and range for awhile, I'm always upgrading and looking for the best equipment for the job, but I don't throw away money.

For under 200 yrds Leupold VX-II 1x4x20 or Weaver V-3 1x3x20 I have 2 of each. The Luepolds are on calling guns and the Weavers are on deer rifles. The Leupolds are a little more forgiving on eye position and the Weavers are lighter.

Out to 300 yrds the hands down winner is the Sightron SS-II 1.5x6x42. Very clear and sharp but has a great FOV for those coyotes that pop out of a depresion 20' from you.

If scopes were free I don't think anything could do a BETTER job.

Honerable mention, Weaver VR-7(2.5x7 Rimfire), Weaver V-10 (2x10), Weaver KT-15, and Mueller APV (4.5x14) I've only had this last one for a year and am still playing with it, it's on a .243 and has proved to be a great scope so far. I have litle need for this large of scope but would feel left out if I couldn't say I have a long range rig.

I don't use scopes with Fast Focus eyepiece because they make the occular lense housing overly large to the point that I have to use higher rings to clear the bolt handle, that's why there are no Bushnell or Burris scopes on my list. I haven't even figured out the need for it.

Yep Ncs are completly useless,ill remember that next time I have to make a 300 yard headshot on a nice buck.......If anyone has a NC mark III that they cant stand to own Ill be happy to take it off your hands.I own Leupolds,all my off gun optics are Leupold but i found out long ago i can shoot just as well with a lower budget scope and if Im going to choose between a $140 Nc or a $180 Bushnell elite over a $600 Leupold and have enough cash left to buy yet another rifle/shotgun or $ to hunt and fish on its and easy decision.Of course if they were free we would all have the best optics,but they are NOT and most of us are working with a budget,and most of us do just as well with our (cheap) scopes as you do with your overpriced ones,sucks doest it?I know a guy that has a $35 bushnell on his rifle and he has killed more big bulls and bucks with it over the last 20 years than anyone else I know,if you are relying on your scope to make you a better shot you need more practice.
