Which scope for $250 - $500

I've got up to $500 to spend on a rifle scope.

It will be going on a Remington SPS Tactical in .223.

It must have a bullet drop compensator.

I'd like at least 10X magnification.

I'll probably shoot some coyotes with it. And maybe prarie dogs one day, but will primarily punch paper with it.

Ok, which scope. I have no brand preference and don't have to spend the entire $500.

Thanks in advance.

I like my 4.5x14 Burris FFII with the BalPlex.
Would leave 250 bucks left for ammo for practice.

Clayman

My Bal Plex works great on steel animals out to 500 mtrs follows the 223 pretty close.

+1
I have one on a browning a-bolt, great scope for the 319 or so that I paid for it.

I would try the Zeiss Conquest line or the Weaver Grand Slams. I love both, but I use a Weaver Grand Slam 4.5X14X40 on my 22-250 and it is great.

Look to www.supersniper.com for lots of reviews. Seems like the majority are extemely pleased with them. There are a few who recommend spending more to get more but then you are off the the races again. I've been waiting for the variable model that may never come.

I looked through a 10X once and it didn't look good. He wouldn't let me focus it so it didn't help much.

I can look though a 10x from about 50 yards and farther.

I'd try a Leupy VXII 4-12x40 with the Long Range Duplex......

I think that's what I'm going to put on my recent acquisition of an early Rem. 700 in .222 Rem. Mag.

I use Kahles and Zeiss on my big game guns but I do like the Burris Euro Diamond. 30mm tube and you can get the Ball. Plex in it. They are less than $500 for Natchez Shooters Supply.

I've been itchin' for a triple deuce lately........

Burris Signature Select in 4-16x44 with the Balistic plex reticle will be perfect. they have a FOREVER warranty, and IMHO are better than a VXIII in glass and coatings.

With the Plex styles you mentioned in the price ranges you mentioned, I'd say the best scope for the money (in my opinion) would be the Burris Signature in 4-16. low power for you close coyotes and 14 for your PD's someday. For a little more you can even get it in Illuminated if your into night hunting.

I have one, great scope for the money. Should be fine for what your asking of it.

I recently bought a Bushnell 4200 Elite 6x24 with mildot reticle and side focus on ebay for $385 new in the box. I have been very impressed with the glass and overall function. I know, I know, I hate ebay now too, but watch some auction sites and you can pick up a great piece of glass for a lot less than retail. Basspro sells this same scope for $599.

Well what did you decide on?

I have not yet purchased anything. Been going around to all the local gun dealers trying to look through all the different glass that has been mentioned.

Here in N.E. AR, it seems most sportsmen aren't going to pay more that $100.00 for a rifle scope so the dealers stock accordingly. Every store I've been in has a huge selection of BSA and Simmons, but very few of the scopes listed on this thread. None of them have more than two of the brands that were mentioned so getting a side by side comparison is out of the question.

I did get to take a look through a Fullfield II yesterday that the first two responders suggested. I think I will probably go with one of these in a 4.5-14.

I appreciate everyones help with this.

One more question though, when comparing mil-dots with the ballistic plex are the hold over points similiar or are the mil-dots not really calibrated at all?
