Which upgrade stock for my Remington 700 204?

I just picked up a Remington 700 Stainless in 204 today. Looking to upgrade the stock for varmint hunting. Looking for suggestions. I have never purchased an aftermarket stock before.
Thanks,
Mike

I have many aftermarket stocks B&C, McMillian, Manners, Greybull and they all are way better then a factory stock. its really more preference and what type/feel of stock your looking for?

are you going to be doing a lot of prone shooting, bench shooting or off hand shots? All that matters to me when I'm picking which stock I will be buying. They all have there benefits but you need to answer a few questions before you decide.

Question how much do you want to spend? how light do you want the stock to be? pillars or full bedding block? do you care what color it is? just a few questions to ask yourself.

Basically all around shooting. In most cases out on the mule and taking a shot when I see a varmint or bird in the vineyard. Mostly ranging out to two hundred yards with some type of support or brace (Side of mule, barn window frame or fee hand).

As far as pillars or full bedding, I'm not sure which route to go. I have a 700 5R mil spec in 308 which came stock with a HS Precision stock which I do like.

As far as cost, I would like to stay under $400.00 for now. Need to spend the rest of my stash on a good scope and trigger!

I would like to be in the $300-$400 range if possible. Something that I can easily drop in the action and barrel without any modifications.

I have several rifles in Hogue ghillie green take offs. I have been able to pick them up for around 50 bucks and the rifles all shoot well under moa with them. My .223 actually shoots .5 moa. The rubber finish is soft and quiet and doesn't scuff.

Interesting. Will they work with a 700 short action?
