Which XD/XDM pistols??

Okay - I am a gun dealer and am putting together my order to Springfield to become a stocking dealer - who knows when my order will show up - but what the heck - it's only 4-5k floating in the wind.

I'm just curious and requesting feedback as to which configurations are the most popular - so throw them out.

Obviously XD/XDM 9, 40 and 45acp, but 3", 4" or 4.5"?

Around here the 9mm and .40 are the most popular by far. Also the gun stores sell two to one with the barrels being in the 3-4" range. Helps keep the gun compact and that is what people around here are looking for.
 
FWIW, I have a XD-45 Compact, and it was hard to find. I had
to order it, through a good gun shop, and had it in a couple
of days, from a distributor.

My nephew had the same experience with a silver and black
XDM-40. Difficult to find, and finally through some
perseverance, the "good" gun shop found one at a distributor.

So those models are either in high demand, or manufactured in
smaller lots, that are just barely keeping pace with demand.
I do agree the compact, or sub-compact, models will be popular.
And 9mm, and 40 S&W, with an emphasis on 40 S&W, will be the
most popular, in general. If your area has a good following
for the 45 ACP, then they should move briskly, too.

These are decent pistols, that should move well, if you stay
away from some of the less popular color schemes. At the
local gun shows, the black, and black and silver, models
go fast, and the brown/black models wait to find a good home.

I have the exact same pistol as Squeeze. I will add a +1 to what he said. If your area has a .45 following these should move easily.
 
A local SA dealer here told me the SCs are hard to get, and in high demand. Get a few of those in 9 and 40 if you can. XDMs also seem to be moving well, at least around here.
 
I work at a popular gun store here in AZ. I carry a XDM 9mm when working at the store.

XDM's in 9 and 40 as it's all they make. We have several models those (bi tone, green, tan, black) and seem that someone always wants the one that's not there. Thus the joy of ordering. However the all Black 9mm and 40's sell the best. When the XDM came out our sales of the standard XD's dropped off considerably. EXCEPT in the sub compacts and the 45's. Like Desert Ram pointed out, ANYTHING SUB COMPACT is in high demand right now. That's evident by the amount of CCW's being pushed through each and every state.

The XD 45 sub compact and 4" model as mentioned above are real big sellers and hard to keep in stock.

We usually keep 15-20 XDM/XD's in stock at all times and dont have a problem moving them. Another note, because of the different grip sizes available on the XDM many men with smaller hands and women have a great deal of interest in them. Glocks (even the SF line's) have a large grip to say the least. A big line we preach in our store is "if it feels good in your hand, it will probably feel good to shoot". Not many people can say that about the glocks.

If you have a competent gunsmith in your area you can really increase the sales of them too because people always want the work done to them that mine have. I sell allot of XD's when I'm working because they feel the trigger on mine, see the suppressor on my 4" 45 and want to know where they can get it done.

I'm a huge glock fan (like many) and own several of them, yet I carry the XDM in the store because of the 20rnd capacity. I also started carrying to help with their sales. No other employee at my shop owned or carried an XD product as they are mostly glock, sig or hk fans. All good guns but I wanted to be able to speak on the XD's as well.

From a personal stand point, being a glock shooter for several years I was use to the feel and the trigger. I can shoot glocks very fast and very accurately after modification to the triggers. This was my complaint about XD's and XDM's.

After talking with Rob Latham at Usery Pass one morning he told me the that Derrick (Accuracy Speaks Gunsmith located at the range) did wonderful work on the triggers. I headed over and dropped mine off. Now I can shoot it like a glock which for me is a big compliment considering the years I have shot those.

My 2 cents. I used to shoot 1911s and have been thoroughly happy with that platform. I ordered an HK 45 last March and during the long wait for the gun to show up, I got the urge to drag a new pistol home. The XDMs were selling like hot cakes at my local dealer so I thought I would join the crowd. I purchased the OD green 40 S&W. I went with the 40 S&W because I had a good stash of 40s from my Glock days.

I am more than content with the purchase and it is now my carry gun. The accuracy is good, as is the felt recoil. The high capacity mags do not hurt. Two of my friends have gone on to purchase XDM 40s after shooting mine. The only down side is hand loading the last 4 into the mag.
 
I work at a local gun shop and it seems like the XD compacts ( 9 and 40) seem to move. But lately people really want the xd m's. No one exactly, but we have the 9 40 and the stainless slide 9 and 40. No 45's right now. But if you had any of those i am sure you would be alright. Pretty mush people want ANYTHING for concealed carry. Try getting some LCP's, Bersa thunder .380's, kel-tecs, and any kind of stud nose relover. We burn up the revolvers and can't keep lcp's in stock
 
Thank you everyone for your input. I am placing my order and should be good to go with XD and XDMs. Not sure about LCPs if I can get them or not - but I might grab a few just in case they have them.
