I like Vet wrap better than the McNett. It's thinner and thus, less bulky when applied. I get it at tractor supply.

I use vet wrap for all kinds of things and it never once donned on me to use it for this. What a brain fart on my part, on a side note has anybody tried the RemWrap stuff.
 
Vet wrap works fine if you don't want the white permanent. My .223 AR is for winter hunting/target shooting exclusively so I had it done in Cerakote Bright White.
 
No snow as of yet but the first snow of the season is supposed to fall overnight and tomorrow.

I've considered cerakoting it and I've considered just giving it a rattle can job, but I don't really think i want to go permanent with it. Just trying to break up the outline of my all black rifles a little bit. Vet wrap or something similar seams ideal, easy on easy off.
 
The Indy news was showing the "Traffic Cam" at Pine Ridge and it was snowing there. Didn't look like to many back ups or delays.

I am reluctant to rattle can a rifle. I would tape it or wrap it first to see how I liked it. Then Cerakote it if I wanted it to be perminant. Are you thinking white on the action and barrel too. I've thought about doing a white camo on an extra stock I have and putting my 25-06 stainless in it just for the snow days.
 
I'm about a 100 miles northeast of Pine Ridge. It snowed pretty much all day today, we really didn't get a lot of snow but the country is white. I think the whole state got snow actually.

I'm really hesitant to make anything permanent, I'm thinking just some kind of white wrap around most of the barrel and as much of the stock and scope as I can get it on.
After a set last winter I walked down the hill to get the call and when I turned around the black rifles that me and my partner were hunting with were just such a stark contrast against the white ground and our snow cammo. I don't necessarily think it makes THAT big of a difference but anytime I can control another variable I try to.
 
I agree. I took some digital camo walmart duck tape and covered my binoculars, and I believe 100% it made a differance. If not it sure was a coincidink that my success rate jumped drastically.

We've been comming out there for about 7 years to shoot prairie dogs. Between Vivian and Murdo. We try to go up to Pierre at least one night and go to the Grocery store that has the Gun store in the basement or over the the Varmint Hunters Headquarters if its a rain out. I really like that country and would like to do some coyote and antelope hunting some day. Prairie rats are fun but there is nothing like calling in a coyote.
 
Your speaking of Lynns Dakotamart, it is a pretty cool place. There are not many stores where you can buy Guns, Ammo, Bait, whiskey, and all the groceries you could ever want under one roof. FWIW there is also a fine gun shop in Ft. Pierre called Teton River Traders, it is worth a stop. Murdo is exactly 1 hour east of me. I know that country pretty well.
 
The Varmint Hunters Organization is a great stop as well and they hold one of the finest coyote calling contests you can hunt very December.
 
Yeah the Dakota Mart, they carry alot of stuff. I saw that Teton River Traders advertised but they were closed when we were in town.

I want to come out in the Fall and hunt sometime. I just wished it wasn't so far.

I'll never forget the first time out doggin and the Indian guide said his boys were going to take him to Red Lobster for fathers day. I asked him were at? Since I hadn't seen one in Wood, or much of anything else. He said Rapid City. Now we live in the country but its not that far.
 
Yeah, western South Dakota is pretty barren and that's just the way we like it. It's the only place in the lower 48 were you can be a 100 miles from the closest McDonalds.

Cerakoted my lil 9mm Carbine, with an attempt at the Multicam Alpine pattern... Cerakote for a designated winter/snow rifle is a great idea.
