Who does NOT use a light shroud? Besides me?

Dirty Dog,

How would one gain evidence that they are not spooking critters without a shroud? A critter can be spooked before you even know it's there, so of course you would see no evidence that you are spooking them without a shroud. Or do you think it's not possible that you are spooking critters before you even pick up there eyes? If it's not, then you are one seriously awesome predator caller. I think everyone who has posted here has done a good job of explaining why they do what they do and given a lot of thought to what they do. People aren't just doing things because that's what has always been done.

You've previously stated that you call in a lot of critters. So good for you. Keep doing what your doing and other people will do what works for them.

I don't like pressure switches, in my experience they add resistance and cut voltage to your light. Everyone I've tried cuts the lux values on my lights.

Dog there is no right or wrong way, if your killing critters your setup must be working.

I'm just confused that you think you never spooked or missed any game using your system. Those were my points of contention, I thought you'd be able to reason that. The shroud had nothing to do with it.

Pressure switches suck. I scan with my head mounted light and keep my of hand on the tailcap switch, no movement. No complaining oh my pressure switch broke what shall I do.

Suppose you were to stop using a shroud for scanning, but still used reasonable precautions to avoid excessive light spill... What percentage of critters would you suppose you would never see due to being spooked? Toss a number out there.

I would guess it's certainly possible it happens, but rarely, perhaps less than a few percent. So few that it's not worth worrying about TO ME.

How many critters would you guess get spooked by not using a shroud?

Dirty Dog,

I really have no idea on a number. It could be a very low number, but my general line of thinking is that I am going to do whatever I can to minimize the possibility of getting busted.

Also, I use small diameter LED flashlights so I make my shrouds out of cardboard toilet paper rolls and gorilla tape. It's not like it's costing me some dough to buy one---just takes about 5 minutes of my time to make one. If taking five minutes to make a shroud gets me an extra critter or two every so often than it is worth it to me.

100%.........Everyone that came in and saw the light and left before I saw them. That percentage is the same with a shroud also.
